Job summary
The Advanced Practice Provider APP is a Nurse Practitioner NP or Physician Assistant PA who provides direct patient care services and performs medical acts as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant under the supervision of the supervisory physician to patients on the cardiology serviceResponsibilities
- Evaluate new patients consult and established patients on the cardiovascular service as well as diagnose treat and manage common conditions in the cardiovascular patient population
- Perform an appropriate history and physical exam on all assigned patients The ACNP/PA will write progress notes prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings a psychosocial history will be obtained relevant to patient care The ACNP/PA will assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients Facilitate order diagnostic studies including echocardiograms cardiolite stress test magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac catheterization if indicated review with attending MD Order schedule laboratory studies
and diagnostic procedures Explain necessity preparation nature anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic
and therapeutic procedures to the patient
and family Work closely with
the inpatient rounding teams including attendings APPs residents Fellows to appropriately allocate workload based on daily census clinical operational needs Assist in training new employees students fellow trainees limits competence actively participate educational conferences Discharge all assigned admitted procedural surgical patients directing attending physician dictating discharge summary patient education wound instructions prescriptions entering discharge orders In collaboration attending residents round daily on patients assess diagnose plan treatment set priorities realistic outcomes evaluate effectiveness cost efficiency patient care Provide coordinate clinical care for service specific patents through established protocols hospitalist supervising physician backup physician site pager Collaborate chief resident resident Fellow other NP/AP colleague nurses patent resource managers formulate treatment plans monitor progress Perform operations environment demonstrated competency guidelines scope practice credentialing protocols Analyze practice patterns provide best medical increase effectiveness efficiency Prescriptive authority prescribing ordering administering drugs medical devices Give handoff appropriate attending resident intern at end shift Job Eligibility Requirements Education PA Master Degree Doctoral Degree ARC accredited program Graduate accredited MSN DNP Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program adult acute NPLicensure Unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB approval practice PA Unrestricted RN licensure recognized NCBON approval practice PN Federal State DEA full prescriptive authority Certification PAB/C/NPAC AGACNPC Experience Strongly prefer candidate year provider experience cardiology setting consider recent graduate nursing experience clinical rotations Physical Mental Able clearly articulate scope practices within guidelines state North Carolina Duke University Health System Independently seek resources collaborative solve complex problems Communicate clearly with health team physicians administrators leadership others Use sensory cognitive functions process prioritize information perform health assessments follow-up record activities document assessments interventions prepare reports presentations Use computer learn software programs Provide leadership meeting organizational goals Navigate Hospital DUHS provide clinical expertise specific populations Withstand prolonged standing walking move lift fifty pounds Remain focused organized Collaborative personnelJob description
