    Position Overview

    The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for developing physical design for cloud and on-premises infrastructure systems and solutions which includes building and testing stories, features, and components; advising on escalated level 2 and 3 support issues; delivering improvement recommendations; and helping to establish an "agile infrastructure" capability to helps drive continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD) goals and processes. Additionally, the Infrastructure Engineer evaluates existing systems for effectiveness, making recommendations regarding the scalability, effectiveness, and efficiency of such systems, and troubleshooting any problems that arise during the use of the system. The Infrastructure Engineer also creates the agreed-upon level of documentation, diagrams, and other artifacts to help others make the best use of the technology.

    As part of an Agile Team, the Infrastructure Engineer contributes to the development of the team backlog and architectural runway, management of work in process (WIP) levels, and support of engineering aspects of program and solution Kanban. Infrastructure Engineer may also participate in program increment planning, pre- and- post planning, system, and solution demos, and inspect and adapt events.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Leads and advises in agile Team activities and is accountable for regularly producing product increments that effectively contribute to solution features and/or components
    • Cooperates and advises product teams in the define product requirements
    • Works closely with the Engineers to ensure infrastructure supports goals required of CI/CD processes and associated toolchains
    • Leads and oversees physical design documents and develops/evaluates product requirements related to infrastructure
    • Develops internal and external interface compatibility of systems and subsystems
    • Responsible for code documentation and source code versioning
    • Writes and executes test scripts
    • Develops and complies with service level agreements (SLAs) or organizational level agreements (OLAs)
    • Coordinates and sometimes leads to the deployment and review of new, modified, or enhanced components, solutions, or services
    • Documents new or modified infrastructure solutions, rest activities/results, installation instructions and other areas such as error handling
    • Develops and validates capacity planning models and load-balancing/ redundancy solutions
    • Collaborates with developers and is responsible for the "Ops" part of DevOps
    • Assists analysts in the development of disaster recovery plans with service providers and network carriers
    • Studies systems to evaluate effectiveness and scalability, and develops/enhances systems to improve production and/or workflow as required
    • Ensures support of innovative efforts by driving creativity, acting with agility, and thinking outside current boundaries
    • Supports and establishes systems environment standards
    • Works with architects to implement governance for role-based access control (RBAC), cost containment and cloud provider account management
    • Evaluates services provided by vendors and recommends changes
    • Uses technology to implement automation and orchestration
    • Manages the infrastructure of the cloud, oversees the architecture, configuration, and deployment of applications in the cloud
    • Performs other duties as assigned
    Education & Experience

    Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in IT Engineering, Computer Science, Business Management, Mathematics, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or Information Sciences preferred, or equivalent experience
    • Typically requires 8+ years of experience in the desired field or may have expert technical or business work experience
    Preferred:
    • Experience in an agile environment strongly preferred
    Certifications & Licenses
    • Relevant certification is required
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Expert ability to:
    • Develop and deliver requirements, concepts of operations, use cases, demonstrations, and presentations to both one-to-one and in small groups
    • Use judgment to form conclusions that may challenge conventional wisdom

    Expert knowledge in:
    • Experience with CI/CD, Agile, and automated deployment best practices
    • Broad range of hardware and software products
    • High proficiency in at least one dynamic programming language
    • Practical application of infrastructure engineering and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, automation tools, and equipment to the design and production of various products and services
    • Cloud management platforms
    • Deploying and operating on a public cloud framework
    • Test harnessing, test simulation, testing platforms, and testing techniques
    Daily Activities
    • Conduct system health checks including file space capacity across Z/OS, Unix System Services and Zlinux file systems.
    • Assist application development teams in troubleshooting system related errors.
    • Complete RACF system and access requests.
    • Security hardening across the Z/OS, USS and Zlinux subsystems.
    • Incident resolution for system related problems across the Z/OS, USS and Zlinux subsystems.
    • Apply PTF's and/or product upgrades for IBM and ISV products.
    • System and application performance investigation focused on reducing CPU usage for Rolling 4 Hour Average billing.
