    Description

    JOB SUMMARY:

    • The therapist must be a graduate of an accredited school of occupational therapy and holder of a current permanent or temporary license from the Indiana Medical Licensing Board.
    • An Associate in this position may provide direct patient care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients through the Rehabilitation Services department.
    • Evaluation and treatment as well as documentation of patient progress is required as well as the ability to communicate with patients, family, physicians and hospital associates.
    • Supervision of students, occupational therapist assistants and monitoring of rehabilitation technicians is also required.
    • In addition, this position may provide assistance to the Rehabilitation Services Director for the administration of the Rehabilitation Services department.
    • The associate must adhere to established organizational and departmental policies and safety guidelines and possess problem solving abilities, excellent customer service skills and Patient First characteristics.
    • The associate must assist in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the facility and be available for on-call and call-back responsibilities, as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The associate must can perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • They must demonstrate the knowledge and technical skill necessary for providing competent, comprehensive patient care as well as display behavior which promotes good guest relations to patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.
    • They must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language and possess keyboarding skills for computer documentation.
    • The therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of inpatients and outpatients as well as the development of a rehabilitation program that meets the parameters of the referring physician.
    • They must be able to teach/instruct patients, families and colleagues.
    • The therapist is responsible for accurate documentation that meets state, federal and facility guidelines as well as participation in departmental meetings/activities.
    • They require knowledge of the healthcare system work environment and the role of the occupational therapist in the health care team.

    EXPECTED BEHAVIORS:

    • Conducts interactions with patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, other associates and the public in a manner consistent with the intent of the hospital's mission, vision, and values.
    • Performs appropriate diagnostic musculoskeletal, neurological and functional skills tests and establishes a plan of treatment.
    • Documents initial evaluation and each day of treatment in patient record in a timely manner and completes summary of patient's progress at discharge.
    • Instructs and assists patients in the performance of therapeutic exercise, muscle reeducation, activities of daily living, cognition and perception training and provides education in proper posture/ body mechanics to promote prevention of injury and maximize therapeutic outcomes.
    • Educates patients concerning how to maximize quality of life within the limits of their physical capabilities and family members concerning how to best assist patients in the rehabilitation process.
    • Provides recommendations to director regarding program development opportunities based on customer needs as well as providing recommendations regarding expense and capital budgets.
    • Participates in the promotion of new and existing programs.
    • Utilizes the CQI methodology to analyze current programs and facilitate change if indicated.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by team leader.
    • Reads current literature and publications concerning therapeutic techniques and trends in Occupational Therapy/health care.
    • Participates in departmental performance/quality improvement and program development as well as in departmental events such as Heartbeats, OT month, health fairs, etc.
    • Promotes the Rehab department through ongoing marketing within the medical community and the community at large.
    • Supervises, counsels, assists in orientation and evaluation of associates.
    • Able to interpret policies and procedures.
