    Job Description

    It is the responsibility of the housekeeper to properly clean and disinfect all assigned areas including but not limited to resident rooms, apartments/houses, dining rooms, corridors, day rooms, shower / bathrooms, all nurses station and common areas. Standard procedures are to be followed to maintain infection control and sustain hygienic surroundings in a manner that is consistent with policies and regulations.

    Responsibilities

    Maintains and supports the mission and philosophy of St. Catherine's Village. Follows Village and departmental policies and procedures. Effectively works as a member of the housekeeping team through open communication with all staff members, residents, volunteers and families. Respects residents' rights and individual dignity. Protects resident's belongings. Understands role in the Village fire, safety and disaster programs. Understands housekeeping extremely important role in infection control. Maintains pleasant, professional conduct with residents, family members and visitors. Performs basic cleaning of residential living areas/public areas to include: * Cleans and disinfects all bathroom surfaces. * Checks function and refills paper towel, toilet paper and soap dispensers. * Cleans and sterilizes public and employee bathrooms. * Spot cleans walls, light switches, door jams and doors. * Dusting of light fixtures and surfaces. * Sweep, mop and/or vacuum from wall to wall. Wiping exposed kitchen surface areas, such as range, refrigerator, cabinets and sinks. * Walls, pictures and doors in hallway. * Elevators, stairwells, entryways, corridors and corridor furniture. * Sunrooms, Therapy room, laundry room, Utility rooms, Activity rooms, pool area and linen closets. * Spot cleans as necessary any area requiring attention. v Follows daily schedule as written but maintains the necessary flexibility to adapt to program and resident needs. v Maintains acceptable practices with regard to safety (with equipment, chemicals and biohazard material), both for self and others. v Informs the Housekeeping Supervisor of problems which may affect housekeeping operations. v Works as a team member; is available to assist others if needed. v Observes required dress code and maintains appropriate conduct and appearance. v Observes and reports to Housekeeping Supervisor any sign of changes or problems noted in resident behavior as housekeeping rounds are made. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly. v Protects residents' possessions. v Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications
    • High school diploma/GED preferred.
    • None required, but some work experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
    • Ability to accept direction and work well with others; ability to stand, walk, reach, lift, pull, bend and stoop most of the working day.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Uses usual housekeeping equipment including carpet and water vacuums.
    • Ability to work with interruptions and sometimes stressful situations.
    • Cheerful demeanor.
