    Job Description

    The Distribution Engineer is involved in existing and new facility design and planning within Gas Operations. The incumbent is also involved in field decisions for the installation/construction of gas facilities. Responsibilities typically include advanced level gas engineering, project management and intermediate level supervisory role.


    POSITION DIMENSIONS
    Incumbent may be an individual contributor or may have direct reports. Up to two exempt employees and three non-exempt employees may report directly to this position. The Distribution Engineer may report to a Manager or Supervisor.


    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    Facilitate the preparation of project designs according to Company specifications
    Facilitate and prepare parts lists and bills of material
    Evaluate municipality, other utility and private developer plans to assess the need for facility modifications
    Conduct or facilitate computer simulations/network analyses to test facility designs or evaluate gas system integrity
    Prepare and assess project requests detailing proposed engineering work costs and project timetable
    Conduct research related to facility qualification and system pressure increases
    Research right-of-way, easement, and other land rights documentation to ensure proper installation location of Company facilities
    Evaluate and design cathodic protection systems to maintain the integrity of Company facilities
    Evaluate and select optimum design alternatives
    Perform and review preliminary engineering analysis necessary to investigate new projects
    Perform and validate engineering calculations
    Prepare and justify cost estimates on proposed design projects
    Review and approve completed designs
    Facilitate and prepare work requests
    Determine necessary design requirements to recommend equipment, materials and procedures to be used to maximize system effectiveness and minimize cost
    Communicate project status to appropriate departments
    Maintain and evaluate data in accordance with regulatory requirements
    Communicate conditions that warrant consideration for potential change or improvement
    Write and review technical instructions
    Specify and initiate purchase requisitions
    Research information on material, equipment and related costs for project activities
    Provide technical support and information to Energy Solutions
    Develop long-term planning initiatives
    Supervise and/or provide direction to immediate subordinates
    Develop engineering project plans and gas system master plans
    Write and review contracts before their execution
    Ensure proper implementation of contract upon implementation
    Conduct and review feasibility studies
    Conceptualize facility design requirements
    Assist with emergency response activities - Be subject to "on-call" duty
    Provide engineering support for the construction of gas facilities
    Prepare and give presentations/training to management, co-workers, and outside entities on various project related topics
    Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
    Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job


    QUALIFICATIONS
    There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed.

    This position requires three to five years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.

    Area(s) of specialization may dictate a specific engineering discipline.


    SALARY DETAILS
    $80,678 - $121,018
