    Position Duties and Responsibilities:


    Provide assessment, participates in the treatment planning & implementation, evaluation, psychotherapy, and art therapy within the Directorate of Behavioral Health inpatient and outpatient as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, social workers, nurses, activity therapists and psychiatric technicians.

    Conduct individual, group, and/or family expressive art-based psychotherapy sessions for inpatient and outpatient clients and foster positive therapeutic relationships with individual and group participants.

    Provide psychosocial assessments to assist the interdisciplinary treatment team in developing individualized treatment plans and diagnostic clarification.

    Facilitate sessions, using art and other expressive mechanisms as a vehicle for psychotherapy, to foster communication, problem solved, enhance self-esteem assist in goal setting, provide a venue for the safe expression of emotions, and develop alternative resources to cope with overwhelming life circumstances.

    Conduct clinical assessments of alt clients referred for treatment.

    Diagnoses will be based on criteria established in the most current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association.

    Foster a supportive climate to facilitate self-expression and group interaction.
    Provide an outlet for suppressed feelings to channel energy and emotional stress into constructive modes of expression and communication.

    Independently assess patients, assisting the treatment team in determining an optimal multi-disciplinary treatment plan for the individual and for the therapeutic milieu.

    Attend staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and other clinical conferences when appropriate to gain maximum knowledge of patients, contribute information gained, and make recommendations for further treatment.

    Utilize art and other creative/expressive clinical modalities (e.g., music, poetry, drama, horticulture) lo support treatment goals and improve patient outcomes.

    Document patient assessments and interventions in patient records (Essentris, AHL TA and other systems) in accordance with Medical Center bylaws, instructions, and regulations.

    Ensure confidentiality of patient records and other sensitive information pertaining to treatment in accordance with Privacy Act 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPPA requirements.

    Augment professional knowledge and develops required skills by actively learning process.
    Maintain supplies to conduct art therapy and other expressive and creative therapeutic treatment modalities.
    Provide in-service instruction lo nursing, medical and psychology students, interns, residents, and staff.
    Demonstrate professional knowledge of a broad range of expressive art and principles and practices.

    Demonstrate through understanding of ability to apply diagnostic criteria of the current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association.

    Demonstrate knowledge of the use of art and other assessment techniques as a diagnostic tool with psychiatric and Residential Substance Abuse Treatment inpatients and outpatients and their families in order to conduct individual and family assessments.

    Demonstrate knowledge of theory, skill and practice of individual, group, and family therapy with emphasis in art therapy, for Directorate of Behavioral Health and psychiatric inpatients and outpatients in ongoing therapy.

    Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, principles and dual-diagnosis treatment. Includes skill in interpreting and communication with medical personnel regarding patient records and master treatment plan issues. Ability to apply this skill in outpatient of inpatient setting using the consultation / liaison route.

    Demonstrate knowledge of techniques to express one orally and in writing in a professional manner and in a medically accepted format, to meet and interact with diversified groups, individuals and organizations, and to prepare in a concise, clear, and effective manner, written reports suitable for medical records.

    May be assigned to other clinics in the DBH FBCH footprint on a temporary basis as needed or for additional on the job training.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    Possess a Master's degree in Art Therapy from a school of Art Therapy accredited by the American Art Therapy Association (AAPA).

    Possess current certification as an Art Therapist (ATR) or pending registration from the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB).
    Minimum of one of experience as an Art Therapist.
    Residential substance abuse or Intensive outpatient services experience is a plus.
    Must be a US Citizen.
