    Description

    The driver position is expected to work as a valued member of the Inductions Department. This job will primarily consist of pick -up and delivery of equipment throughout Hampton Roads using company owned vehicles.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Verify the contents of inventory loads against delivery/pick-up items.
    • Inspect equipment or materials to identify errors or other problems or defects.
    • Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources and communicate the information to the Inductions Manager.
    • Load and unload van or automobile.
    • Sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins.
    • Must be able to deal directly with the public, as an ambassador of SCI's core values.
    • Must be able to communicate with supervisors, co-workers by telephone, email, or in person.
    • Obey all traffic laws, and follows established traffic and transportation procedures.
    • Safely transport equipment and materials to customer locations in a timely, safe and courteous manner.
    • Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as oil, gas, water, tires, lights, and brakes, to ensure that vehicle is in proper working condition.
    • Reports any mechanical problems encountered with the vehicle to the Inductions Manager.
    • Must have the ability to determine potential problems.
    • Perform other tasks as required by the Inductions Manager.
    Requirements

    Education / Training Requirements
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    Additional Skills
    • Must have the ability to see detailed signage at a distance while driving.
    • Basic computer skills for operating a touchscreen tablet and PC.
    • Ability to understand and communicate information.
    • Must be able to read maps, follow navigation systems and be familiar with the Hampton Roads area.
    • Must be able to work in a FAST-PACED environment.
    • Able to function well as a member of a team.
    • Must be able to work independently.
    • Must be trustworthy and reliable.
    Additional Requirements
    • Must have a valid driver's license.
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
    • Must be able to successfully pass a background and motor vehicle record check.
    • Maintain a well-kept appearance.

    Drivers are often required to work outside in all kinds of weather or in conditions without climate control.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local (Hampton Roads area) during the business day. Occasionally out of town day trips may be required.

    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes weighing up to 50lbs up to 8-10 hours per day.
    • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
    • Bending/squatting/kneeling/stooping/crouching/crawling/twisting up and walking up to 8-10 hours per day.
    • Must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination and endurance.
    • Must be able to climb, lift, balance, walk, stoop, when handling materials or equipment.
    • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving of whole body such as handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating items for delivery.
