    Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Senior Principal Aeronautical Engineer ( Computational Fluid Dynamics) to join our Design and Analysis team of qualified, diverse individuals
    This position will be located at our Clearfield, UT site
    Our Design and Analysis group, including the Thermal/Fluids team, works with experienced engineers, supporting sophisticated design, analysis, and process support of composite aerospace structures
    We engineer the latest composite structures for military/commercial aircraft and launch structures

    • Aeroheating and ablation analysis for test configuration applications
    • Working with the team of experienced engineers to apply heat transfer and fluid dynamic analysis skills for predicting temperatures during cure of composite structures
    • Support will also include, but is not limited to, performing thermal surveys of part equipment/tooling, developing fluid flow models, thermal analysis support for preliminary and critical design phases, and preparing presentations
    • Survey support includes working with thermal and airflow specific instrumentation such as thermocouples, hot wire anemometers, etc.
    • Performing data reduction and interpretation of measurements
    • Mentoring, providing technical guidance, and reviewing work of junior aeronautical engineers
    • Additional support may include performing simulations of thermal standardization efforts for composite manufactured parts and conducting flow tests to support equipment such as autoclaves and ovens
    • Characterization of material thermal properties: test planning, test support, and data reduction
    • Supporting Research & Development, Testing, and Manufacturing groups during the development process
    • Work with experienced engineers to perform conjugate thermal/structural analysis for predicting cure deformation of composite components
    • Communicating with customers to collaborate on design requirements and systems integration requirements for development parts and assemblies We work a 9/80 work week, which gives us every other Friday off to pursue passions outside the office
    Travel is up to 10%, all within the continental US and typically involves a 2-3 day trip a few times per year

    • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and 7 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM field and 4 years of engineering experience.
    • Demonstrated industry experience with heat transfer analysis
    • Demonstrated industry experience with subsonic fluid flow analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance

    This clearance is not required to start employment but must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.


    • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP)
    This SAP is not required to start employment but must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs

    Preferred Qualifications :

    • Experience with any of the following software packages: ANSYS Fluent, Thermal Desktop, STAR-CCM+, Siemens NX, MATLAB, Abaqus CAE, Python scripting
    • Demonstrated industry experience with supersonic/hypersonic fluid flow analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software
    • Composite thermal/structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
    • Basic or intermediate skills using CAD software packages
    • Knowledge of composite materials
    • Experience supporting engineering testing and characterization of material mechanical and/or thermal properties: Test planning, test support, and data reduction

    Salary Range:
    $114,900 - $172,300 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions
    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay
    Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results
    Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives
