    LEISURE SERVICES DEPARTMENT

    Full-time: work requires a flexible schedule.


    Job Summary:

    Supervises Cultural Arts and Historical Arts Division personnel and volunteers in a wide variety of cultural and historical arts related tasks. Supervises contracted personnel, technicians and outside labor specialists. Work is performed with wide latitude for making independent judgments and actions. Performs duties under general supervision of the Director of Leisure Services/Public Facilities. Responsible for the management of the Cookeville Performing Arts Center, Cookeville Museums, Dogwood Performance Pavilion and the Cultural Arts and Historical Arts divisions.

    Examples of work performed: Plans, initiates, organizes, supervises, evaluates, trains, and schedules personnel involved in a diversified program of historical and cultural arts activities; selects performers for scheduled concerts and plays; oversees booking of scheduled events at the Performing Arts Center and Dogwood Performance Pavilion and other facilities. Supervises maintenance and operation of all electronic, mechanical, stage, sound and lighting equipment; publicizes events; works in cooperation with area cultural arts providers; oversees all expenditures for the division; coordinates special events for the department as required; executes contracts with performers and outside contractors; performs related duties as required.


    Required Knowledge and Abilities:

    Knowledge of cultural arts programming and administration

    Knowledge of business management and bookkeeping skills

    Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

    Ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, inspect and evaluate the work of others

    Ability to develop and implement cost-effective and revenue-providing recreation programs regarding cultural and historical arts

    Ability to effectively schedule a large performing arts center

    Ability to program a community-wide program of arts, crafts, music, theatre and other aspects of the visual, fine and cultural arts

    Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the public


    Qualifications:

    Four-year degree in Parks and Recreation, Arts Administration, Theatre, Communications, Business Management, Public Relations or related field preferred. A minimum of five years' experience in at least one of the above areas is required along with increasing responsibility and supervision of staff. Background in theatre and facility management, and a knowledge of the operation of a comprehensive cultural/historical arts program preferred. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.


    Essential Functions:

    The essential functions of this position are primarily sedentary, performed in an office setting. They include the use of a computer and associated peripherals, using a variety of communication devices, and moving about an office to access cabinets, etc. and occasionally moving objects weighing up to ten pounds. The non-sedentary essential functions include the ability to maneuver one's body to reach and move items that might weigh up to fifty pounds; the ability to navigate steps/stairs, and uneven terrain; travel to various City facilities, sometimes in inclement weather. Must be able to work flexible schedule. Attendance is an essential function of this position.
