    Description
    Position Summary


    The Medical Technologist/Technician is responsible for overall daily operations and testing in the laboratory, reviews and maintains quality control and preventative maintenance records, review and updates procedure manuals, inventories laboratory supplies, and evaluates new tests and procedures.

    Qualifications/Experience


    Education:


    Must possess a Bachelor's or Associates degree from an accredited college or university eligible for certification through ASCP or an equivalent registry.

    Laboratory training through an accredited Laboratory school is preferred. Must meet the CLIA Testing Personnel requirements.


    Experience:
    Desirable characteristics include at least two years experience as a Medical Technologist. Will accept new graduates. Must be able to follow directions and perform work according to department standards when no directions are given.


    Other Skills:
    Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Understanding of critical value reporting, urgency of stat orders and the sensitivity of patient information.


    Licenses/Certificate:
    Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

    Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and SARH.

    Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action. Must understand the importance of critical value reporting and the urgency of stat orders.

    Must participate in safety instructional programs. Must obtain and maintain BLS certification.


    Receives referred specimens or specimens directly from patients and performs complex qualitative and quantitative analysis accurately 100% of the time.

    Performs required tests according to established procedures and methodologies 100% of the time.


    Completes reports for test performed and ensures quality control criteria are met 100% of the time before reports are issued.

    Documents all quality control and maintains required records 100% of the time.


    Troubleshoots all equipment within the laboratory and ensures equipment is in good working order before reporting results 100% of the time.

    Assist in the evaluation of new or modified techniques.

    Advises and assists in the training of other personnel when required.

    Prepares reagents according to established protocols 100% of the time.

    Assists Director or Phlebotomist with their duties when necessary.

    Successfully assists in supervision of preventative maintenance records 98% of the time

    Performs quality control procedures and maintains records 100% of the time.

    Successfully supervises laboratory personnel in the absence of the Laboratory Director 98% of the time.

    Assist Laboratory Director in Performance Improvement goals.

    Coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity 95% of the time.

    Completes testing within expected time guidelines 95% of the time.

    Performs duties with little or no supervision 98% of the time.

    Protects confidentiality of information 100% of the time.
