    Description

    Key responsibilities:

  • Assess, project edit, and approve manuscripts (consulting Authors when necessary) to meet in-house editorial requirements, undertake any structure edits required and resolve queries as necessary
  • Gain understanding of our partner's house style and implement it consistently
  • Research and undertake content development on titles
  • Work with Author and Commissioning Editor to assemble and finalise picture lists and project trackers, create and oversee schedules, ensuring text and pictures are delivered on time and within budget
  • Monitor and control quality of freelance editorial work and work of Editorial Assistants
  • Maintain ongoing liaisons with Authors/Contributors, Non-English Language Team, Picture Researchers, Designers/Artworkers and other Freelancers throughout the book's production
  • Check proofs and plotters and compile corrections as necessary
  • Write sales presentations and prepare visuals in order to present titles at sales conferences; attend and contribute to editorial meetings and subject breakout sessions.
  • Experience and skills required:

  • A minimum of 3 to 4 years working in Editorial within a publishing environment
  • Strong commercial awareness and communication skills
  • Knowledge / experience with colour-illustrated publishing
  • The ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels in a fast moving entrepreneurial environment
  • Hybrid working pattern: You will be working three days office-based / two days home-based.

    Location: The right candidate can be based in either New York or London.
