    Summary

    To join a growing, Inpatient Gastroenterology Consult Service.

    The focus of this position is providing-high quality care directly to inpatients assessing and treating the needs of patients consulted on by the inpatient Medical Gastroenterology Consult Team.

    The successful candidate for this position will be part of a multidisciplinary team composed of faculty, residents, psychiatrists, nursing, social worker, and case managers.

    Promotes a safe and healthful environment through compliance with regulatory standards and other measures. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of evidence-based interventions and trends.

    Responsibilities*Patient Care/Assessment

    Preform comprehensive assessments by Interviewing patients to obtain a detailed history and completing physical examinations.

    Collect and assist in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.

    Formulates appropriate diagnoses/differential diagnosis based on the history, physical exam, and clinical findings.

    Present pertinent data to the attending physician and collaborate on the care plan.

    Carry out patient care plans as established in collaboration with attending physician.

    Prioritize need for patient evaluation and outpatient follow up.

    Write and sign prescriptions according to protocols or critical pathways as prescribed by the supervising physician.

    Confer with multidisciplinary team members to communicate and coordinate care of patients.

    Maintain appropriate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.

    Provide patient education to patients and their care givers.

    Administer follow up care to patients and assist in the referral to various internal and external facilities.

    On an as needed basis, compile and record detailed narrative case evaluations and provide statistical summaries of services rendered.

    Participate in the education of nurses and other support personnel.


    Maintain continued medical education and development via informal discussions, regular meetings with his/her supervising physician, outside reading and attendance at formal conferences and meetings.


    This is a consultative service that requires working with a team of residents, fellows and an attending physician who rotate every 2 weeks.


    Organizational Relationships and Practice Environment:
    Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive medical supervision from the Inpatient Medical Gastroenterology Director or designee.

    Advance Practice Professionals (APPs) will receive administrative supervision from the APP Manager.

    Required Qualifications*NP:Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

    Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program

    Certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (AANC) or American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)

    AHA Approved BLS certification

    AHA Approved ACLS certification

    Current DEA registration required

    1 year of APP experience


    PA:
    Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.


    Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.

    Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

    AHA Approved BLS certification

    AHA Approved ACLS certification

    State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required

    Current DEA registration required

    1 year of APP experience


    NOTE:
    Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

    Desired Qualifications*Two or more years APP experience in a hospital or clinic setting.

    APP Experience in Gastroenterology and Hepatology

    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as measured by references and interviews.

    Demonstrated success working within a multidisciplinary team model.

    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    Prior experience with Epic EMR is desirable.

    Work Schedule


    This is a 1.0 FTE, 40-hours per week/ up to 5 days per week, variable shift lengths, Variable schedule including weekends and holidays.

    Schedule is subject to change based on clinical and operational demands where the employee practices.

    Union Affiliation


    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

    Background Screening


    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.

    Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.

    Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
