    Description
    Objective: The Carevan Technician is responsible for the safe transportation of clients to and from appointments according to the daily schedule.
    Essential Duties:
    • Know and support the Mission Statement, Policy/Procedures and standards of MMR.
    • Represent MMR to the public as a caring, professional, out-of-hospital caregiver.
    • Maintain proficiency in working all Carevans in the fleet.
    • Present a clean, courteous, professional appearance at all times.
    • Review schedules so that drop-offs are made within 15 minutes prior to appointment time and pick-ups within 30 minutes after completion.
    • Safely assist patients into van as needed from house or facility entrance.
    • Provide wheelchair or additional assistance as needed for patients who are weak or debilitated.
    • Maintain good patient, staff and interagency relations.
    • Respect and hold in confidence all information of a confidential nature obtained in the course of professional work unless required by law to divulge such information.
    • Maintain professional competence and demonstrates concern for the competence of other members of the EMS health care team.
    • Adhere to standards of personal ethics, on and off duty, which reflect credit upon the profession.
    • Support and participate in on-going continuing education utilizing MMR programs when offered.
    • Attend and participate in company meetings as required.
    • Keep vehicles clean and report the need for maintenance as soon as discovered.
    • Responsible for the full knowledge of the vehicle's medical and non-medical equipment and its proper use.
    • Responsible for precepting students, trainees and observers as directed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skill and Competency Requirements:
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent
    • Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver license and maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by MMR's insurance carrier
    • Possess and maintain a current Healthcare Provider certification from American Heart Association (new hires within 3 months)
    • Maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by MMR's insurance carrier
    • Skilled in use of locator aids to find specific locations (maps, computerized mapping, directories, etc.)
    • Pass all driving examinations, both written and road tests
    • Ability to effectively express oneself in the English language, both verbally and in writing, in order to communicate with medical and lay personnel
    • Ability to sympathetically with patients and others while displaying a professional manner while on and off duty
    • Skilled in use of EMS radio equipment
    • Knows and abides by FCC rules and regulations
    • Reflects the standards of professionalism with neatness and cleanliness
    • Advanced computer skills including the ability to utilize a computer PC with Windows operating system
    • Ability to operate office equipment, including but not limited to, copier, fax machine, scanner, monitor, multi-line telephone, printer, typewriter and calculator
    • Must complete initial and annual Bloodborne Pathogens Training
    • Must be at least 18 years old
    Physical Factors: Must be able to lift a minimum of 265 pounds (175 lb. patient and approximately 90 lb. stretcher) with assistance from one other qualified individual. (This ability is quantified through a physical ability test). Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds, by yourself, at a waist high level and carry a distance without pausing. (This ability is quantified through a physical ability test). Has visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye, with corrective lenses and a field of vision in the horizontal meridian not less than a total 140 degrees; ability to distinguish traffic colors (red, green, amber); hearing should be adequate in the better ear for conversational tones without the use of hearing aids. Due to the unpredictability of this type of organization, it is not always possible to guarantee meal and/or break periods. Therefore, the person must have no physical condition that would prohibit him/her from working 12 hours without a break, and/or an uninterrupted meal period. Meet minimum requirements of MMR post-employment physical examination, physical ability test and drug screen.
