- Reviews case cart and preference card before each case. Prepares the operating room by supplying it with supplies and instruments to provide appropriate patient care
• Sets up and maintains the sterile field during the procedure using strict aseptic technique
• Prepares and labels fluids and medications on sterile field
• Performs appropriate counts prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
• Participates in time out/sign out process - Scrubs to assist the surgeon in the completion of surgical procedures by demonstrating a working knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment needed for a variety of procedures.
• Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, passing instruments and providing sterile items in an efficient manner, as directed by the surgeon/proceduralist.
• Implements sharps safety practices including use of a safety zone.
• Prepares specimens for pathologic analysis - Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization
• Assists operating room team with environmental cleaning and case turnovers.
• Stores and stocks supplies as needed
• Participates in assigned on call activities. - Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
- Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section
- Graduate from an accredited school or university as Surgical Technologist or applicable surgical technology course of study Required or
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Required
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association Required and
- Current and valid Surgical Technologist certification Preferred and
- If position filled by an LPN, current and valid LPN license for NE/IA depending on state of residency Required
