    Primary Purpose:


    Coordinate and manage the District's Energy Management System program, providing the instructional, training, and technical expertise required to monitor and implement energy activities for effective and efficient operation throughout the District for students, staff, and the community.

    Education/Certification
    • Bachelor's degree in engineering-related field preferred
    • Ability to obtain Energy Manager State Certification or CEMSpecial Knowledge/Skills
    • Knowledgeable of energy management systems program development
    • Knowledgeable of HVAC and lighting systems
    • Knowledge of communication and radio systems
    • Experience in supervision of maintenance personnel and operation of school facilities
    • Extensive experience and involvement in management level responsibilities and positions within construction, industry, military or government agencies will be given full consideration
    • Evidence of performance in higher levels of management and/or administration requiring extensive skills and abilities in these disciplines
    • Possess ability to organize, plan, and implement programs with a minimum amount of guidance and oversight from others
    • Demonstrated ability to manage people and coordinate an effective employee relations work program
    • Exemplary history of working as a team member possessing high levels of loyalty and support for other management
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage an operations budget for an organization, business, or governmental agency equivalent in complexity and magnitude of the Irving ISD building maintenance program
    • Extensive technical or specialized expertise in analyzing, designing, and implementing programs for providing solutions to complex mechanical, structural, or administrative problems
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, and codes
    • Possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license and prove insurability with the District's insurance carrier
    • Computer skills using Microsoft Office
    • Bilingual Spanish PreferredExperience
    • Three (3) years of experience in energy-related field, preferably within an educational environment.
    Other experience may be substituted with approval from the department directorMajor Responsibilities and Duties:1.

    Plan, develop, and coordinate a comprehensive Energy Management program, and ensure that energy management operations are supportive of the instructional goals of the district2.

    Employ effective interpersonal skills to develop and implement an Energy Awareness and Conservation program for staff and students3. Provide instructional support for students by providing presentations, classes, data and information on energy, conservation and recycling related topics4.

    Mentor students on energy, conservation, recycling and technology related subjects as well as the core subjects in the current curriculum5.

    Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure the optimum performance and maintenance of the District's HVAC and energy management equipment6.

    Maintain an aggressive program to reduce District costs for energy7. Coordinate and manage the Facilities Services radio system8.

    Coordinate and provide instructional tours of Lady Bird Johnson Middle School to students, stakeholders, staff and interested parties from around the world9.

    Perform annual energy audits of all facilities and provide detailed written observations indicating findings and cost-saving opportunities10.

    Maintain effective communications with the Facilities and Operations departments, principals and their staffs to promote optimum facility comfort while reducing energy consumption levels11.

    Develop short-range and long-range plans for implementing energy saving innovations for the District12. Assist Utilities section staff in evaluating HVAC and energy equipment to ensure effectiveness13. Facilitate rate procurement for District in terms of electricity, gas, water, and sanitation14. Compile utility budgets and cost estimates based upon documented program needs15. Approve all bills for payments funded by energy management budget16. Serve as the District's Recycling Coordinator17. Manage all solid waste services for the District including regular trash and large roll off dumpsters18. Maintain and update the department website19. Manage the SchoolDude software for the Division20. Serve as the Facilities Manager on Duty as scheduled, and respond in a timely manner21. Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and district policies22. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Facilities ManagementSafetyContribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety

    Mental Demands:
    Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
