    Description:

    • Seeking a Control Room Operator (CRO) to join our Covanta Stanislaus Waste-to-Energy Facility
    • We are looking for a dedicated individual who, working under the direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor and with a team of Operators, is responsible for monitoring and control of all plant systems.
    • Position will respond to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and execute approved plant shutdown and start-up procedures, and assure that the plant meets its operational, environmental and safety commitments.
    • The Control Room Operator (CRO) provides guidance to Crane and Auxiliary Operators to maintain safe and efficient operation.

    Position Requirements:

    • To qualify you must have a HS diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 yrs. of power plant/relevant experience coupled with basic computer, blueprint, P&ID, schematic specifications and vendor requirement reading experience.
    • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent experience is preferred.
    • Experience in municipal waste combustor operation including startup, shutdown and malfunction event response is preferred.
    • While a technical or trade school experience is desirable, hands-on boiler house operation is essential.
    • Knowledge in plant electrical distribution system, turbine generation operations, boiler operations, pollution control equipment and MSW combustion is a must.
    • Candidate must pass the ASME QRO Provisional Licensing exam within the first year of holding the position.
    • Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts.
    • Basic computer knowledge, experience reading blueprints, P&ID's and schematic specifications.
    • Strong leadership and excellent oral and written skills, including the ability to problem solve and make good decisions.
    • Adequate math skills to complete required job functions.
    • The capability to manage critical events and prioritize in an emergency, providing clear directions in operational, safety and environmental tasks.
    • The ability to manage crews, work in closed quarters, confined spaces, climb ladders and structures, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, sit for long periods, tolerate heights and high temperatures and to be fit tested and able to wear a respirator.
    • A valid driver's license

    Additional Requirements:

    • Ability to take appropriate safe action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or injury to personnel during emergencies or unusual situations.
    • Strong leadership skills, oral and written communication skills, and problem solving/decision making skills are a must.
    • The ability to stay alert while sitting for long periods of time, work in close quarters and confined spaces, climb ladders and structures, tolerate heights, and tolerate high temperatures is key.
    • A valid driver's license and the ability lift up to 50 pounds are also required.
    • The applicant must possess a thorough understanding of the Back Plant Operator, Auxiliary Operator, and Control Room Operator's duties and responsibilities and be capable of standing watch in any of the a fore mentioned positions.
    • The candidate will be required to support a flexible schedule as a relief operator to cover vacation and shift coverage requirements in the various qualified positions.
    • The candidate will be required to obtain the QRO provisional certification within 6 months.
