    Description
    The Webb School of Engineering at High Point University invites applications for an Instructor of Computer Science with an expected start date of August 2024. This is a non-tenure track (promotion-path), renewable position. We seek an energetic and dynamic individual with a passion for teaching introductory computer science. The ability to teach in a specialize area such as web technology, mobile applications, computer systems, etc is regarded as a bonus.

    Responsibilities include teaching introductory and computer science courses, advising computer science majors, and service to the department, school, and university. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence. In addition to teaching, scholarship and service obligations, instructors are expected to assist with ABET accreditation activities.

    A M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Science Education or a closely related field is required, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field is preferred. ABD would be considered. Graduate certificates will be considered favorably.

    The successful candidate should have a demonstrated proficiency in, and love of, teaching and an interest in working with highly motivated undergraduate students. Instructors are encouraged to engage in scholarly activities and are expected to remain technically current in the discipline.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

  • An earned masters in computer science, cybersecurity, or closely related field is required. An earned doctorate is preferred.
  • Experience and Training:

  • Previous teaching experience at the college level is preferred.
  • Experience with ABET accreditation is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching is expected. Prior experience designing and leading new curricular and programmatic initiatives at the university level is highly desired.
  • Applicants for the rank of Instructor are expected to demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching.
  • We especially seek candidates who are interested in working with undergraduate students on real-world projects in a liberal arts setting.
  • Participation in the ABET accreditation process is expected.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • High Point University's typical teaching load is 16 credits per semester (4 courses each semester), plus engagement in scholarly activity and service to the department and the profession. Faculty interested in interdisciplinary activities are especially sought after.
  • In addition to undergraduate teaching, the candidate is expected to advise undergraduate students, engage in student support and development, participate in student recruiting and retention endeavors, engage in scholarly activity within the context of a teaching-oriented university, and serve the University and the School.
