    Avionics Mechanical Design Engineer

    Company: Impulse Space
    Location: Redondo Beach
    Reporting To: Carl Haken, Director of Avionics
    Compensation: $105,000 - $145,000 / year

    Description

    As a member of the Avionics team at Impulse Space, we are looking for an Avionics Mechanical Design Engineer who will be in charge of creating and testing the mechanical aspects of spacecraft avionics. This includes enclosures, brackets, as well as more intricate components like mechanisms, battery packs, and optical instruments.

    Role Includes:
    • Creating and testing mechanical aspects of new high-quality avionics devices
    • Collaborating with experts from various fields to optimize overall vehicle performance
    • Evaluating structural modes, thermal behavior, and other vital aspects of avionics devices
    • Designing products for efficient manufacturing and collaborating with suppliers
    • Establishing effective build processes and enhancing instructions with technicians
    • Managing the interface between avionics and vehicle structures.
    Minimum Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related
    • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design
    • Proficiency in CAD software and willingness to learn new tools
    • Knowledge of designing metal components for easy manufacturing and assembly
    • Understanding of GD&T and tolerancing
    • Ability to articulate technical challenges, rationale, and resolve concerns
    Desired Skills and Experience
    • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related
    • Experience in design for challenging vibration/thermal environments
    • Background in motor design, optics, harness routing, RF, or vacuum environments
    • Experience in a startup or agile development setting
    • Proficiency in NX and Teamcenter
    Additional Details:

    Compensation levels are based on role, location, and market alignment. Along with base salary, full-time hires may qualify for long-term incentives such as stock options, medical benefits, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
