    Contributes to the clinical functions of medical imaging in terms of quality assurance, quality control, and optimization/reconfiguration of imaging equipment for fulfilling regulatory requirements from state, federal, ACR accreditation, and joint commission. Participates in patient radiation estimation, management, and consultation. Performs a key role in clinically oriented medical physics research and development projects. Contributes to the educational activities, including but not limited to medical physics and technology lectures for fellows, residents, and staff; hands-on fluoroscopy radiation safety training for medical trainees; mentorship for the medical physics residency program of Radiology.

    The Physicist is required to do the following:
    • Quantitatively analyzes collected QC images using computer-based algorithms to verify equipment performance.
    • Performs the leadership role, as a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP), in all aspects of obtaining and maintaining accreditation of applicable imaging modalities by the American College of Radiology.
    • Maintains certification as a Diagnostic Medical Physicist.
    • Performs day-to-day operation of imaging equipment QC activities. Works closely with technologist leadership in maintaining equipment-testing schedules.
    • Works with the technologist leadership and clinical managers with the update, maintenance, and documentation of the department's Quality Control Programs with respect to imaging equipment performance as required by Joint Commission guidelines. Assists with annual imaging equipment performance testing required to meet Joint Commission guidelines.
    • Performs requested clinical radiation dosimetry calculations in support of patient consultation, research, and regulatory requirements.
    • Performs key role in the clinically oriented medical physics research and development projects.
    • Contributes to the educational activities of the department, including but not limited to regular medical physics and technology lectures for radiology fellows, residents, and staff; hands-on fluoroscopy radiation safety training for medical trainees; mentorship for the medical physics residency program.
    The Physicist must have the following:
    • American Board of Radiology (ABR) board certified or ABR eligible
    • Masters Degree: Medical Physics, Radiological Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical, and Computer Engineering, or relevant fields
    • 2 years' experience in medical imaging physics or a related field
    • PhD degree holders are preferred.
    • Candidates with strong experience in diagnostic imaging physics and nuclear medicine are preferred.
    • Eligible for an HMS appointment
    The academic faculty appointment will be based upon your primary specialty (e.g. the Department of Radiology) at Harvard Medical School. Appointment as an Instructor or Assistant Professor will be commensurate with experience, training and achievements in addition to teaching activities. Candidates are expected to participate in the teaching activities of the Harvard Medical School for medical students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
