- Review providers clinical notes to determine if procedure code selected is correct
- Review charts and send messages to providers with specific information required to bill claims.
- Submit claims by paper and electronically with proper attachments.
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of a mechanism for communication and resolving coding discrepancies.
- Provide feedback reports for trending and continuous identification of documentation and coding improvement opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to improve revenue capture, reduce unnecessary processes, enhance billing compliance and accelerate cash flow.
- Improve percentage of "clean claims" sent out to third party payers.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Description
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Associate's Degree from a college or university program accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). In lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma plus two (2) years of related billing experience may be considered. Experience working with insurance policies, reimbursement and/or dental terminology.Preferred Qualifications:Dental Clinic/School experience. Dental billing experience. AxiUm Experience. Knowledge of Medicaid dental guidelines and/or reimbursement methodologies. Proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Brief Description of Duties:At Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, our Charge Review Specialist will support the Dental Clinic's Revenue Cycle Management, Compliance and Patient Experience.
This position maintains a validated process in accordance with the Dental Care Center's Pre-Claim Review Policy to ensure patient records contain clinical documentation to support treatment. The position ensures that all clinical documentation for dates of service is reviewed, submitted, and adjusted in a timely manner to meet healthcare billing regulatory requirements, increase the clinic's collection rate, and reduce AR. The successful Incumbent will have excellent communication skills; be highly organized. They will have excellent attention to detail and be able to meet deadlines.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
