    The Professional Development Coordinator is a grant-funded position, primarily responsible for providing comprehensive support in various aspects of professional development, including but not limited to resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, presentation skills enhancement, salary negotiation guidance, and facilitating the job search and application process.

    This role is situated within the Office of Academic Engagement and Student Success within the Department of Career and Workforce Development for facilitating the career growth and success of students.

    This position reports directly to the Director of Career and Workforce Development.

    Essential Functions:

    • Provide personalized guidance and support to students on resume writing, cover letter crafting, interview techniques, presentation skills refinement, salary negotiation strategies, and navigating the job search and application process.
    • Utilize career exploration assessments, job readiness assessments, and other career assessments to evaluate students' interests, skills, personality traits, strengths, and values, guiding them towards suitable career paths.
    • Proactively engage with students through workshops, one-on-one career advising sessions, and outreach initiatives to promote professional development opportunities and resources available within the department.
    • Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate data related to student engagement in professional development activities, employment outcomes, and other relevant metrics to inform program improvements and strategic decision-making.
    • Plan, coordinate, and deliver professional development workshops, seminars, and presentations on topics relevant to career readiness and success, ensuring alignment with the needs and interests of students. These events may include career workshops, information sessions, interview workshops, networking sessions, career conferences, employment events, job fairs, internship fairs, and career expos.
    • Collaborate with appropriate faculty, staff, academic departments, and employers to identify and promote career readiness initiatives and internship opportunities tailored to students' academic and professional goals.
    • Develop and curate a comprehensive repository of professional development resources, including online tools, templates, articles, and guides, to support student self-directed learning and skill development.
    • Conduct regular evaluations and assessments of professional development programs and initiatives to measure effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven recommendations for enhancements.
    • Assist in the administration, coordination, and implementation of the Handshake platform, including approving student internships, co-ops, practicums, and other career education opportunities. Track and document student participation in these placements and develop marketing strategies to increase student engagement.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Experience in organizing large-scale career fairs, informational sessions, and similar events.
    • Excellent relationship-building skills with a range of stakeholders, including students, community members, employers, and academic staff.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of effectively conveying information to a variety of audiences.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with faculty, staff, and student populations.
    • Proficient in collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data to make informed programmatic decisions.
    • Strong understanding of career development theories, counseling techniques, and best practices in professional development.
    • Understands how to read and interpret reports and data.
    • Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
    • Familiarity with career services software and online platforms is desirable (i.e. handshake).
    • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is required; Master's Degree is preferred.
    • Experience in career counseling, advising, and/or coaching or related student services role within a higher education setting.
    • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
