    Garden Staff and Volunteers operate the TAFB Learning Garden, Kindred Spirits Kitchen Garden and Market Garden at TAFB West through weekly garden workdays.

    The AmeriCorps Programs Assistant will provide support for all Garden & Farm Programs. Qualifications and Requirements

    • Experience or education in nutrition, gardening/agriculture; preferred
    • Bilingual in Spanish and English; preferred
    • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and proof of insurance
    • This position requires frequent walking, standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying, lifting up to 40 lbs., and occasional climbing
    • This position requires participation in outdoor activities. Exposure to insects, soil, plants, heat, cold and sun will be a regular part of the work environment. Time Commitment 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; occasional evenings; 1-2 Saturdays per month; scheduling may vary depending on scheduled program activities. Additional Requirements Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite Strong communication skills in speaking, writing and presenting information Ability to work with a diverse group of people; use problem-solving skills; follow direction; work without close supervision; manage time effectively; complete tasks Must complete pre-screening background check and drug screening This location requires a total service commitment of 450 hours.     Member Duties :

    • Assist and lead program activities in the Community Garden and Farmers Market Nutrition Programs; including garden workdays, workshops and voucher distribution
    • Interact with and lead volunteers and participants in a respectful and caring manner
    • Garden work including, but not limited to, planting, weeding, composting, seed starting, and watering.
    • Perform administrative tasks as related to direct service activities, including sorting, printing, organizing, and data entry
    • Prepare and update program materials.
    • Visit garden and farm program partner sites and record observations
    • Attend and lead program-related trainings for volunteers and community members.
