The Firefighter performs both Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting and facility fire prevention/safety duties.
Responsibilities
- Perform duties of ARFF firefighter responding to helipad stand-bys, aircraft emergencies and other flight line mishaps
- Assists with emergencies or incidents involving aircraft as assigned; performs tasks associated with aircraft crises to include extrication and rescue, fire extinguishment, first responder medical assistance, spilled fuel containment, runway preparation,
- wreckage removal Respond to on-site building fires medical calls other emergency situations hazardous materials incidents emergency situations within the West facility grounds Provide control of fire situation suppression extinguishment forcible entry ventilation search rescue victims salvage overhaul Locates water source lays connects hose acts nozzle backup person direction water streams uses chemical fire extinguishers raises climbs ladders Selects properly operates fire service tools equipment includes hoses nozzles appliances components sprinkler standpipe systems Prepares inspects inventories repairs maintains equipment apparatus hoses tools materials turnout gear aid equipment vehicles safe operation tests equipment regular basis Drive operates response vehicles Conducts participates department training safety inspections mishap drills Monitors communicates effectively over radio channels exchanges information dispatchers medical professionals department employees Assists conducting familiarization surveys building inspections notifies concerned parties hazard prepares pre-fire plans layout building hydrant locations checks hydrants proper function Conducts prevention examinations interiors exteriors buildings detect hazardous conditions violations ordinances laws conducts investigations examinations structure fires scenes submits reports findings necessary Perform inspections preventive maintenance eye wash stations AED stations RMT2000 RMT4000 suppression systems Conduct special projects complete tasks assigned including fueling/defueling procedures assigned shift Works in well-lighted climate-controlled facility May work hazardous working conditions near flight lines assignments uncontrolled climate facility Must able obtain maintain Security Clearance if/when required While performing job employee consistently stand walk reach hands arms climb balance crouch often confined spaces Employee frequently lift move pounds Expected handle/manage hazardous waste regulatory industrial standards Wears/maintains protective shields barriers required
