    BITCO Corporation is currently seeking Underwriter Trainees to join our Home Office team in Davenport, IA. With 11 branch offices in 10 states, BITCO provides quality insurance services to special industries including construction, energy, and forest products.

    Position Summary:

    The Underwriter trainee role begins with six months of extensive training at our corporate facility in Davenport, IA. Throughout training, the trainee will gain valuable knowledge of the commercial insurance industry, underwriting processes, and develop soft skills through our specialized training program, BITCO-U. Following successful completion of training, the position will continue with on-the-job experience at one of our branch office locations, mentored by a branch office commercial underwriter.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Assists in the reviewing and quoting of applications from new and renewal customers and for changes in policies and in preparing information for the respective policy or change
    • Assists in the accepting, declining or modifying of applications or requests to sell an insurance policy
    • Assists in reviewing agency factors, including agency personnel, line diversification, loss ratio, book of business, volume and profit potential
    • Assists in contacting agents, brokers or underwriting personnel to discuss quotes, renewals, applications, changes and underwriting problems
    • Helps to maintain, promote and increase profitable sales from current and prospective customer accounts by assisting in, among other activities, agency visits, developing agency relationships and agency reviews
    • Participates in projects involving research of company and other reference information
    • Completes necessary course study(ies) relating to coverage and rating of insurance policies
    • Gains knowledge in other company disciplines through contact with representatives of such other departments in an office or customer location
    • Develops, maintains and enhances good customer relations
    • Completes programmed instructional materials covering basic insurance coverages and underwriting processes
    • Maintains and builds good relationships with customers, agents and co-workers
    • Other duties as assigned
    Qualifications:
    • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Risk Management, or related field from an accredited college or university
    • Must be willing to relocate to any of our branch locations upon successful completion of the training program, with relocation expenses paid by the company
    • Ability to provide prompt and effective underwriting services to our customers
    • Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external parties, including in a group setting
