Associate accountants are supervised by senior tax accountants, supervisors, managers and partners depending on the level of engagement. They are usually given less complex tax assignments; however, they do use a lot of independent judgment. As they gain experience in the field, they are given more difficult assignments and greater responsibilities. Usually an Associate Accountant has less than three year of tax experience.
Key Responsibilities
Demonstrates an understanding of fundamental principles of federal and state tax law
Exhibits an understanding of the levels of authorities, legal precedents, rulings, and regulations
Effectively applies tax knowledge to individual returns and less complex business returns
Exhibits a desire to understand business transactions and related issues
Provides research support to a transaction review process
Demonstrates an ability to prepare individual and business tax returns in a timely and efficient basis
Prepares a completed and organized tax file including appropriate supporting documentation
Exhibits an understanding of computer software used in tax preparation process
Works independently and shows initiative
Stays current on federal and state tax law matters
Adheres to Firm policies and procedures and to rules of the AICPA
Recognizes and pro-actively supports the fact that the Firm is in the business of providing quality client service
Addresses client and supervisor concerns in a timely manner, including communicating concerns with supervisor
Quality is consistently demonstrated in all aspects of work
Willingly participates in the recruitment of new staff
Performs assignments within specified hours and assigned due dates
Keeps firm and client information confidential
Maintains the Firm's objective of integrity and professional compassion by treating others fairly and with respect
Demonstrates professionalism through appearance and behavior
Education/Experience
Bachelor Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university. No minimum experience required. Experience in an accounting preferred.
Internship preferred. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Must be able to multi-task and have excellent organizational and follow-up abilities. Proven ability to identify problems and develop creative solutions. Ability to read, speak and write English.

Physical Ability -
Tasks involve the ability to travel to meetings outside office, exert moderate physical effort, and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 20 pounds.
