    7:45am - 4:45pm

    Job Summary:

    Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work is performed executing a variety of clerical duties and resolving customer complaints. Main duties are collection of utility payments and processing applications for utility service.

    Examples of work performed: Responds to customer inquiries and resolves complaints concerning utility bills; receives, opens and processes mail; processes customer utility payments through cash registers; balances cash register and cash boxes daily; processes and prepares accounts for utility billing; takes requests for letters of credit; maintains landlord and rental property files; maintains active utility files; interviews the public on matters requiring the interpretation of office policies and procedures; processes customer applications for utility services; performs related duties as required.


    Required Knowledge and Abilities:

    Knowledge of business English and arithmetic

    Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment

    Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing

    Ability to keep records and make reports

    Ability to perform a variety of clerical tasks, such as typing, filing, balancing, etc.

    Ability to learn clerical tasks readily and to adhere to office routine

    Ability to make decisions in accordance with office policies and regulations

    Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions

    Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees in a calm manner


    Qualifications:

    High school education or equivalent is required. Experience in clerical work involving considerable contact with the public and handling money is preferred.


    Essential Function:

    Duties performed primarily in a stationary position approximately 50% of the time in an office environment; Work requires moving about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc; inputting data into computers and other office devices; frequently communicating with citizens and utility customers in-person and by telephone.
