Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to support an 8th-grade male student with special education needs. The student is eligible for services under the primary category of Autism and the secondary category of Other Health Impairment. As a PCA, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the student's success by providing individualized assistance and promoting positive behaviors.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Support:
Provide one-on-one instruction as directed by the teacher.
Assist the student in various areas, including cognitive development, gross and fine motor skills, feeding, self-help skills, and behavior control.
Health and Safety:
Maintain awareness of the student's environment and potential hazards.
Ensure the health and safety of the student, especially considering any physical limitations.
Personal Hygiene:
Assist the student with personal hygiene tasks, such as handwashing, face cleaning, toileting, and changing diapers or clothing as needed.
Behavior Management:
Monitor and manage the student's behavior in accordance with established guidelines.
Encourage appropriate behaviors, time management, and self-advocacy.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other specialists and educators to support the student's physical development.
Prepare the student for mainstreamed classes, ensuring a smooth transition.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with students with special needs, particularly those with Autism and Other Health Impairments.
Compassion, patience, and a positive attitude.
Reliable transportation (PCA will accompany the student to SHS for one math period daily).
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM (school hours).
Additional time required for accompanying the student to SHS (10:00 AM to 11:00 AM).
