    We are seeking a Senior Estimator in Albuquerque, NM, to develop quotes for projects put out to bid by state and local agencies and submit them to contractors for consideration. Develop strong customer relations. Negotiate post-bid awards. Build and maintain positive customer relationships with contractors, agencies, and clients. In this position you'll be part time estimator and part-time salesperson, wearing two hats.

    The starting salary is $90,000-$105,000 per year depending on experience, including yearly bonuses.

    What You'll Do:
    • Work with BM/DM/COO on changing focus from price proposals to value proposals when and where appropriate
    • Build customer relationships by getting out to see customers, not just sending them price quotes
    • Review letting schedules and provide feedback to BM, DM & COO regarding unique or large potential opportunities months in advance when possible
    • Develop bidding strategy through discussions with BM/DM to determine what type of work we should be bidding, where we should bid and with what resources. Involve Ops in bid.
    • Schedule and participate in bid review calls, including cash flows on larger projects
    • Work with finance to ensure compliance with state and local tax laws, pre quals, etc
    • Work with COO to improve standard costs and our approach to estimate cost. We are not trying to necessarily change your pricing, just to get a more realistic estimated margin.
    • Complete the monthly Bid Pipeline report and submit timely to Financial Analyst to the COO
    • When project size or complexity out match your skill or scope, involve other estimators, other BMs/DMs and other Districts
    • Participate in industry events, organizations, etc. to build our business and networking opportunities
    What We Need from You:
    • Must have a minimum of 3 years Road/Highway construction Estimating experience, preferably in Traffic Safety or Pavement Marking. Sales training is a plus.
    • Degree in Construction Management, Financial Management or related field preferred.
    • Computer training will be required for ERP, skills also required in Excel and Word.
    • Understanding of the financial aspects of job costing and "bid to actual results" including variance analysis.
    • Ability to "build" the project to determine the best approach to building the estimate.
    • Knowledgeable in branch specific Lines of Business as well as knowledge of customers' work types. Thorough understanding of state specifications for Traffic Control & Protection, devices, materials, and methods.
    • Must be familiar with the various equipment used within the scope of the operation and the standard costs associated with each piece
    • Ability to effectively communicate the scope of work, cost basis and margin in the bid review process, including detailed cost components
    • Ability to analyze historical results for market trends, labor, and material trends etc and integrate into the final bid.
    • Industry involvement through trade associations, coalitions with state DOT, or similar.
    • Understanding of financial documents including balance sheet and profit & loss statement.
