    Job purpose

    The Pediatric Dermatology Coordinator works to provide comprehensive clinical care and patient scheduling for the Dermatology Primary Care department that is consistent with Fair Haven Community Health Center (FHCHC) policies and mission.

    Duties and responsibilities

    Reporting to the FHCHC Director of Nursing, the Pediatric Dermatology Coordinator will manage a high volume of incoming calls and faxes and assess the nature and urgency of the inquiry in order to determine assistance and/or direct the callers. Provide support to the Pediatric Dermatologists during clinical sessions. Typical duties include but are not limited to:

    • Anticipate the needs of the patient and clinician and prepare patients in an efficient and productive manner for smooth, consistent workflow.
    • Prepare patients in advance of seeing the clinician as appropriate based on the visit type, chief complaint and clinician's preference. Selects and lays out medical supplies and maintains medical equipment and inventory of supplies.
    • Perform tasks related to patient visits that may include: patient education, documentation of chief complaint, review of medications and allergies, vital signs, initiating preventive health screenings based on the age and sex of the patient, perform point of care lab testing and/or procedures with a clinician order or per standing orders.
    • Draw up necessary medications anticipating needs of Dermatologists.
    • Assist with administrative tasks as needed for patient care including but not limited to completing patient forms, scheduling patient appointments, and scanning patient information into EPIC, managing prescription refills, prior authorizations, etc.
    • Perform other necessary duties as required by FHCHC to achieve the goal of providing excellent primary health care in a medical home.
    • Participate in pod functions such as huddles and pod meetings and participate in team and departmental meetings.
    • Ensure patient confidentiality and safety.
    • Adhere to all health, safety and infection control protocols.
    • Provide excellent customer service and culturally competent care.
    • Adhere to all FHCHC documentation standards.
    • Engage in performance improvement activities and act as an agent of positive change by looking for innovative ways to improve processes and advance clinical excellence.

    Qualifications

    • Two years of related clinical and clerical work experience, licensed practical nursing degree is required. BLS certification required.
    • Demonstrated ability and excellent skills to independently carry out assignments, complete various forms, and utilize appropriate infection control techniques; strong knowledge of medical terminology and relevant procedures and excellent written, electronic and oral communication skills are also required.
    • EPIC scheduling/EMR experience preferred, PC Data Entry. Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite specifically Word and Excel, Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred. Requires reliable transportation to commute between FHCHC sites.
    • The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment; above average critical thinking and problem solving skills and portray a pleasant and respectful attitude when communicating with coworkers, patients, and internal and external clients.
