    Residential Counselor

    This is a Part Time position Thursday and Friday, 2:00 PM to 10:30

    PM


    SUMMARY:

    This position is responsible to provide residential supervision, assure the safety and protection of residents and assist and monitor residents in completing self-care activities; prompt and guide residents in activities of daily living including basic hygiene, dressing, grooming or meals; management of money; medication, transportation; and recreation.


    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:

    • Provide residential services listed in residential service plans of care including monitoring or assisting with meal preparation and serving; assisting and supporting residents' personal hygiene and clothing practices; providing general housekeeping; conducting activities and providing opportunities for socialization and recreation within the facility and in community.
    • Provide health-related services under nursing delegation and as provided for under State regulation and agency policy; prompting use of coping skills; assisting residents with community navigation and transportation arrangements; and with money management.
    • Make accurate and complete notations in the resident record documenting significant information concerning the resident and summarizing progress made relevant to objectives and activities outlined in residential service plans.
    • Follow Federal, State, local, and agency policies and regulations to prevent abuse, mistreatment, or exploitation of the residents, and to safeguard residents.
    • Implement emergency procedures and disaster plan when needed. Conduct random emergency drills documenting resident capacity for evacuation and train residents in emergency procedures within 72 hours of admission.
    • Conduct resident orientations consistent with Oregon Administrative Rules and agency procedures.
    • Attend all meetings that occur on shift including: community meetings, staff meetings, treatment coordination meetings, and shift change meetings. Attend other meetings as required by Administrator.
    • Engage with patients and encourage interactions around activities like cards, games and other appropriate interests.
    • Participate in and/or coordinate patient activity in small residential improvement projects, such as organizational projects, decorating, cleaning and other similar tasks.
    • Assist patient with self-administration of medications per established procedures, including accurately recording all medication activities in the medication record.
    • Travel and provide transportation for patient appointments. (This requirement may not be needed for night shift).
    • Ensure a safe and sanitary environment for residents by assuring cleaning standards are met. Staff is responsible to reporting any facility and community needs to the administrator in writing by end of shift. Emergency facility needs are to be reported immediately to the Administrator following safety protocols.
    • Communicate written information to staff in communication log during each shift and conduct shift change.
    • Follow written crisis plans as needed to resolve the crisis or address other needs of the individual to assist in accessing crisis services.
    • Follow Federal, State and agency confidentiality procedures.
    • Report any and all medication errors timely; ensure exchange of medication responsibilities as outlined in agency procedures.
    • Provide general housecleaning, recycling, garbage, shopping, and minor grounds care.
    • Achieve outcomes using methods that align with CODA's mission and values:
    • Communicate accurately and positively about recovery and the use of evidence-based treatments.
    • Use data and science to identify barriers, overcome obstacles, and inform decisions.
    • Be financially responsible; avoid waste, document accurately, seek new opportunities to serve.
    Demonstrate compassion and respect for others

    Requirements


    REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

    • Valid Oregon or Washington Driver's License.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to acquire within 90 days of hire.
    • Crisis Prevention certification (such as CPI) within 90 days of hire.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
    • Must be able to perform Basic Life Support for 15 minutes continuously and maintain BLS certification.
    • Negotiate staircase, reach, and handle objects.
    • Must be able to follow proper protocol while interacting directly with patients and working in a clinical environment.
    • Ability to safely utilize Personal Protective Equipment in working with biohazard and Blood Borne Pathogen exposure.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • Ability to safely utilize a computer for extended periods of time, including keyboarding, using a mouse, reading information from a monitor, and sitting at a workstation.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    • Complete 16 hours pre-service orientation and 8 hours in-service training annually during employment.
    • Maintain professional, ethical and behavioral standards of conduct at all times.
    • Consistent attendance and punctuality are required of this position.
    • Constructive interactions and independent problem solving skills.
    • A negative result on all pre-employment, reasonable basis, and post-accident drug screens.
    • An acceptable criminal record as determined by DHS, the Oregon Administrative Rules, and the Oregon Revised Statutes; and no current supervised parole or probation.
    • An acceptable driving record as determined by CODA's automobile insurance provider.
    • An acceptable result on a recent (within 12 months) Tuberculosis screening.
