- Leadership and Supervision
- Manage and lead a team of APPs in pediatric neurosurgery, including hiring, training, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Clinical Oversight
- Ensure high standards of clinical care are maintained across the team. Oversee patient case management, review treatment plans, and provide expert guidance on complex cases.
- Policy and Procedure Development
- Develop, implement, and review clinical protocols and guidelines to improve patient care and ensure compliance with medical and safety standards.
- Quality Improvement
- Lead quality improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes and department efficiency. Analyze performance metrics and implement strategies based on data-driven insights.
- Direct Patient Care
- Provide advanced neurosurgical care to pediatric patients, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. Assist in surgical procedures and manage preoperative and postoperative care.
- Education and Training
- Facilitate ongoing training and professional development opportunities for APPs. Organize workshops, seminars, and regular case discussions to enhance clinical skills.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Collaborate with neurosurgeons, pediatricians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
- Administrative Duties
- Participate in budgeting, scheduling, and other administrative functions necessary for the smooth operation of the department
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families
- Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment
- Handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment
- Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care
- Good clinical judgment
- Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in application of acceptable standards of practice
- Mobility and visual manual dexterity
- Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients
- 5 years as a certified nurse practitioner, physician assistant or relevant managerial experience required (at least 3 of the 5 years from APP experience)
- 3 years of experience in the department specialty preferred.

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Supervisor PA or Acute Care CRNP for the Pediatric Neurosurgery department. The Supervisor of Pediatric Neurosurgery APPs oversees a team of advanced practice providers within the pediatric neurosurgery department.This role is responsible for coordinating and enhancing clinical care delivery, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards, and leading quality improvement initiatives.
The supervisor also provides direct patient care while mentoring and supporting the professional development of the APP team.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The supervisor is expected to handle a flexible schedule, including potential on-call responsibilities, to meet the needs of the department and support the APP team.
This position is ideal for a highly experienced and motivated individual who is committed to advancing the field of pediatric neurosurgery through leadership, compassionate care, and continuous improvement.
The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients as specified below.
They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
Special Skills and Abilities Required:
Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) is required.
BS, MS preferredFor Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner:
The successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program is required. BSN, MSN preferred.
Special Skills and Abilities Required:
In addition to the responsibilities of the Staff APP, the Supervisor, APP must meet the following criteria to achieve supervisor status:
Must supervise 3 APPs. Must maintain clinical practice at least 25% of the time.
Must precept at least 1 student per year.
Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status.

A current state PA license, certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
For Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners:
