    THE POSITION


    The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Smithfield is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person with the required experience to work as a Corrections Food Service Instructor.

    Become part of the DOCs efforts to diminish criminal activities by offering personalized rehabilitation and educational programs to inmates, leading to effective reintegration into society through responsibility and transformation.


    DESCRIPTION OF WORK


    The role of the Corrections Food Service Instructor involves leading and overseeing the tasks performed by inmates in areas such as food preparation, production, service, and baking.

    In addition to assigning and reviewing routine and specialized tasks, the instructor is responsible for enforcing custody and security regulations to maintain control over inmates.

    This includes inspecting food service areas, equipment, and food to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards. The instructor also plans and reviews inmate work assignments.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
    • This position will have rotating shifts Sunday through Saturday.
    • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
    • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,753.00.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY


    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
    • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Additional Requirements:

    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
