Bridge Equipment Operator - Bozeman, United States - Gallatin County, MT
Description
Under general supervision of the Bridge Foreman, this position is responsible for operating specialized heavy equipment and tools to maintain, repair, and construct County drainage features.
The position also provides operational support to the Road, Bridge, and Junk Vehicle Department and performs a variety of other duties as assigned.
The position reports to the Bridge Foreman and does not supervise other personnel.This position requires the occupant to perform more manual labor duties than equipment operation duties.
This position requires knowledge and skills in specialized heavy equipment and tool operations, bridge site maintenance and construction standards and procedures, material specifications, and basic mechanical diagnosis and repair.
The position also requires the ability to monitor and maintain safety protocols, work effectively under adverse site conditions, and coordinate tasks and procedures with others.
Position must have the ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions; skillfully and safely operate heavy equipment; perform heavy manual labor; work outside in varying weather conditions; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma plus three (3) years of related experience in heavy equipment operations, road/bridge construction, or related trade/technical field.
Applicants for this position must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of Montana or attain a Montana driver's license within 60 days of hire and be insurable under the County's liability policies.
Equipment operators are required to complete the following training/accreditations within six months of hire: Flagger Certification, First Aid/CPR, MSHA-46 (Miner) Certification, Wildland Fire Training and Work Zone Safety Training.

Some of the many benefits offered to full-time and part-time employees:Excellent Medical Health Benefits - Group health benefits, including dental and vision coverage, are available to eligible County employees. The medical health benefits premium is covered for full-time employees. The County contribution is pro-rated on hours paid for part-time employees. The employee pays the premium portion for dependent coverage. Family health benefits coverage is $205.00 per pay period.
Medical deductible is $400 for an individual and $1,000 for a family.
Paid Parental Leave (PPL)- In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Gallatin County provides 240 hours of PPL to eligible full-time employees.

As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation and will be required to successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing thereafter.
