    The Associate Director Packaging Engineering in Indianapolis Device Assembly & Packaging (IDAP) Operations is responsible for leading the Packaging Engineering group establishing and sustaining systems and technical proficiency to ensure reliable packaging engineering support.

    This position provides leadership for the IDAP Packaging Engineering Group with the TS/MS organization. Provide direction and influence to associated functional disciplines to support the packaging engineering technical agenda and site business objectives. It assures that appropriate qualified resources and systems are in place to provide technical stewardship of existing processes. This position interacts with Global Packaging, individual Flow and Process teams as well as procurement for the successful design, technical specifications and implementation of packaging materials and vendors.

    Key Objectives / Deliverables:

  • Build and maintain a team of Technical packaging material experts
  • Develop, mentor, coach and recognize employees within their organization
  • Owns site qualification efforts for primary and secondary packaging components/materials
  • Key member of the Materials Management Governance Board and technical lead on new vendor additions and changes
  • Ensure packaging engineers have and maintain process understanding of vendor systems and technology and have the ability to assess and troubleshoot issues with detailed problem solving capabilities
  • Build and maintain a technical team capable of supporting on site packaging equipment regarding material interactions, function and performance
  • Create and maintain partnership with Global Packaging to ensure seamless transition of packaging changes and new items/materials
  • Build and maintain working relationships with suppliers to resolve material related issues and ensure technical capabilities
  • Arrange vendor site visits and information/technology sharing
  • Challenge status quo to continually improve processes and systems
  • Oversee development and execution of Engineering studies is support of packaging materials
  • Deploy technical team to assist process teams in issue resolution
  • Ensure process team support with material related issues on the line
  • Oversee development of Packaging Schools and assemble delivery system
  • Develop and continually improve packaging engineering career path
  • Ensure formal problem solving and first principles are established and utilized by team
  • Develop project scope and budget and ensure they are delivered within scope
  • Formalize systems and procedures to support and improve the growing business
  • Work cross functionally with network sites to harmonize and share packaging engineering technologies, solutions and best practices Administrative Leadership
  • Develop and maintain a staff in line with Lilly values utilizing technical knowledge, skills, and consistent process to ensure delivery of site goals.
  • Ensure technical growth of team via continued learning and skills enhancement
  • Ensure training compliance and learning plan alignment
  • Each associate to build and maintain a career map and development plan
  • Build packaging engineering business plan objectives and lead site initiatives in support of holistic business plan
  • Assemble and maintain resource allocation model to support site
  • Lead performance management process for team
  • Effectively encourage knowledge sharing and education within team and with key internal partners: Operations, Quality Assurance, Quality Control Labs, Logistics, Engineering and Site Technology Transfer Team. Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Previous demonstration of strong leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Understanding of statistical process control
  • Understanding of quality and corporate policies
  • Solid understanding of the importance of and basic requirements of Regulatory agencies such as the FDA, EMA, OSHA, and EPA
  • Demonstration of solid judgment and initiative
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, working safely, and accountable for supporting all HSE Corporate and Site GoalsAdditional Preferences:
  • Device assembly and / or packaging experience
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging EngineeringEducation Requirements:
