- Manage women's care during labor and delivery under obstetrics-gynecology physician supervision.
- Obtain accurate medical, obstetrical, gynecological, and psycho-social history of current pregnancy.
- Observe general and obstetrical health status indicators.
- Conduct comprehensive physical examinations including pap smear, breast, abdominal, pelvic examinations, and pelvimetry.
- Record all examination findings and significant observations in patient's chart.
- Determine pregnancy status, fetus presentation, position, and heart rate.
- Order necessary laboratory tests like X-ray, ultrasound, CBC, urinalysis, blood type, and Rh factor.
- Consult obstetrician for special care or diagnostics; refer to other services when needed.
- Take preventive actions, detect abnormal conditions, and seek consultation when necessary.
- Provide health education, counseling, and guidance to patients.
- Evaluate patients' overall health status during pregnancy and post-pregnancy.
- Assess fetal health through procedures like palpations and ultrasound examinations.
- Perform fetal monitoring and interpretation.
- Collaborate with obstetricians on complex cases.
- Evaluate labor progress and admission necessity.
- Independently handle normal vaginal deliveries.
- Assist in Cesarean Sections and gynecological surgeries.
- Provide immediate care for newborns.
- If hiring a new grad CNM, must obtain California Furnishing Number and DEA Registration within twelve (12) months.
- Graduate of an accredited RN program.
- Graduate of an A.C.N.M. accredited nurse midwifery program. BS or BSN or BA required.
- MS Degree required in 2010.
- Registered Nurse License (California)

- Nurse Midwife National Certification from American Midwifery Certification Board
- Three (3) years recent CNM experience preferred.
