GRANT FUNDED POSITION
6.5 Hours per day
180 Days per Year in accordance with the School Calendar
Time:8:00am – 3:00pm
SUMMARY: The job of a Language Acquisition Assistant was established for the purpose/s of assisting in the assessment and instruction of students' English language acquisition from their native language and fluency in the English language, in addition to administering tests.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or its equivalent. Must understand, speak, read and write English. Basic knowledge of additional languages (Arabic, Vietnamese, Albanian, Bengali) preferred. Ability to work with students is required.
- All Language Acquisition Assistants must meet one of the following qualifications: Preferred at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 credit hours), or obtained an Associate's Degree or higher
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
- Guides students in individual or small group specialized English language instruction for the purpose of fostering student success.
- Implements, under the supervision of the English Language teacher, instructional programs (e.g. tests, homework assignments, make-up work, lesson plans, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving the student's academic success through a defined course of study.
- Performs record keeping (e.g. student work log, etc.) for the purpose of compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
- Supports ELL students with written and oral communication (e.g. attending parent-teacher conferences) for the purpose of developing English comprehension and assisting in communication to foster students' success.
- Participates in district in-services for the purpose of compliance with local, state and federal requirements.
- Maintains regular personal attendance and punctuality for the purpose of ensuring efficient delivery of services to the district.
- Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in their service to EL students.
- Completes other duties as assigned to support EL students.
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
