    Coordinate daily workflow, scheduling, and training of Recovery Coaches.

    Serve as a personal guide, and liaison for individuals with substance use disorders identified in the Emergency Department or in WVU Medicine affiliated treatment settings.

    Support patients by assisting them with identifying treatment needs, developing, maintaining, and monitoring individualized treatment plans, and supporting patients to remain in treatment.

    Provide outreach, support, recovery check-ups on site in the Emergency Department, in treatment at CRC and in the community and functioning as part of a treatment team.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Completion of minimum 40 hours of state recognized Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification training in specific domains through a nationally recognized training program
    • West Virginia state and Federal criminal background check required for DHHR WV CARES regulated area
    • Bureau of Medical Services Peer Recovery Support Specialist Certification or WVCBAPP certification within 6 months of employment.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Two (2) years' experience as a Recovery Coach or in a related role.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

    • Valid Driver's License
    • WVCBAPP Peer Recovery Certification
    • Certificate of completion of the CCAR Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department.
    • Active participation in the recovery for two or more years and current active attendance at peer community recovery support meetings.

    CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.

    • Create bi-weekly Recovery Coach shift schedule.
    • Oversee training and documentation of Recovery Coaches.
    • Coordinate Recovery Coach service provision outside of the ED such as with the Heart and Vascular Institute and the long-term antibiotic services.
    • Run weekly patient reports in EPIC on patients seen by the recovery coaches in the Emergency Department.
    • Work actively with patients with Substance Use Disorders identified in the Emergency Department or other WVU Medicine treatment settings Help link patients to outpatient treatment.
    • Provide mentoring through life-experience to individuals experiencing substance use problems.
    • Meet face to face with individuals and identified support persons in person and/or by phone, at a frequency and format requested and agreed upon by the individual. Ideally, at least once a week.
    • Develop individualized plans with patients and monitor those wellness plans during meetings as identified above.
    • Provide information to treatment team to inform treatment decision making
    • Link patients to available resources, including, but not limited to: continuing education/professional development, safe housing, recovery supports, self- help groups, substance abuse and mental health services, sobriety meetings, and medical/health facilities.
    • Serve as a liaison to the patient's formal and informal supports, including but not limited to: their referral source, family members, client sponsors, treatment providers, and other supporters.
    • Maintain working relationships with ED and CHH staff and other agencies or institutions in order provide awareness of recovery as a reality and the availability of recovery coaching.
    • Receive on-going supervision and training in order to provide recovery coaching services to the highest degree and the benefit of the community and individuals served.
    • Assist patients in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, and other problems.
    • As needed, in coordination with program manager, develop new services for the IMPACT program to improve patient care.

    • Able to wear latex or vinyl gloves, with frequent changes and hand washing. Able to tolerate working with and around noxious odors.
    • May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental and patient needs. May be required to travel between facilities/buildings. Work may be performed in acute hospital setting.
    • May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries and death.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of treatment resources including a working knowledge of the 12-Step Fellowships.
    • Ability to comply with WVU Medicine, WVU Research Corporation, UHA, and Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry safety procedures
    • Completion of HIPAA training and compliance (to be completed upon hire, with refresher courses as determined by administration).
    • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and families, pharmaceutical company personnel, regulatory and monitoring agency personnel, internal staff members. Communicates with physicians, patients, students, and employees of WVU, WVU Medicine, and UHA.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to develop specific goals and plans, to prioritize, organize and accomplish tasks independently and through others.
    • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
    • Skilled at working as a team member.
    • Skilled at written and oral communication.

    Knowledge of basic computer applications:
    Word and Excel.


    • Ability to monitor recovery coach staff and give feedback on documentation as needed.
    • Knowledge of running patient reports in Epic.
    • Ability to train new staff in the peer recovery duties and responsibilities.

    Additional Job Description:
    Includes day and evening as well as some weekend shifts.
