    Job Description:

    This position has responsibilities in the preventive maintenance and repair of site equipment in the Michigan Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS).

    This position requires high knowledge in the area of repairing and purchasing replacement parts for the equipment. This position would install and oversee the installation of current or new site equipment to manufactures standards. This position may require overnight travel, on-call, or overtime during the course of their duties.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Knowledge and experience on tower rigging, climbing equipment, safety procedures, electrical wiring, troubleshooting electrical problems, familiarization with steel structures, and the use of mechanical and electrical tools.

    The office of Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) has a focused mission of providing statewide public safety communications for more than 2075 state, local, federal, tribal and private public safety agencies.

    Through our employees, MPSCS handles the second-largest trunked communication system in the world with 291 tower sites, 90 state and local public safety dispatch centers with 490 radio dispatch consoles and 82 Computer Aided Dispatch consoles, 117,716 radios and 7,046 fire pagers.

    The MPSCS Network Communication Center(NCC) monitors systems operations 24 hours a day to ensure the system is ready to assist Michigan's first responders.

    The function of any public safety communications system is to assure the rapid response and cooperation of emergency personnel. The MPSCS achieves this through reliable, easy-to-use statewide coverage and advanced technology.

    The ability to share information on demand and in real time, whether it is voice or data, is critical to public safety in Michigan.

    Education

    Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

    Experience

    Tower Technician 8

    Two years of experience assisting skilled trades' workers in the tower trade.

    Tower Technician E9


    Four years of experience in the installation, erection, maintenance, repair, painting, dismantling, and inspection of unusually high structures (such as bridges and radio towers), including two years of experience equivalent to a Tower Technician 8.

    Candidates selected for this position must complete the Michigan State Police background check. This extensive background check requires fingerprinting for state and federal criminal background records.
