    TITLE: Secondary Assistant Principal

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Secondary Administrator's Certification
    1. A master's degree in educational leadership or related field
    2. Successful teaching experience
    3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate
    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Assist the building principal in all aspects of operation of the school.

    INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP
    • Assist the principal in articulating a clear and compelling vision founded in strong and sustainable student achievement outcomes.
    • Ensures clear and measurable goals are established and focused on critical needs regarding improving student achievement.
    • Ensures that data are analyzed, interpreted, and used to regularly monitor progress toward school achievement goals.
    • Effectively evaluates teachers' classroom management, instructional practice, professional development pursuits, interpersonal and leadership skills, while identifying high- and low-effectiveness performers, and provide clear and actionable feedback, resources, and support.
    • Assist in providing ongoing professional development for staff, based on an analysis of school / assigned building data, best practices, and instructional research.
    • Assist in modeling and promoting the continuous use of data to inform practice and drive decision making and instruction.
    • Observes and evaluates teaching methods and examine learning materials to evaluate and standardize curricula and teaching techniques, and to determine areas where improvement is needed.
    • Ensures that the school curriculum and accompanying assessments adhere to state and district standards.
    • Ensures that teachers meet individual student needs and abilities and develop satisfactory growth in skills based on assessment data.
    • Assists teachers in providing a classroom atmosphere conducive to maximum learning.
    GENERAL DUTIES
    • Assist the principal in interviewing and making recommendations to hire school personnel.
    • Supports the school board, superintendent, and all central office administration in district efforts.
    • Assist the principal in the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations by the staff and students.
    • Assist the principal in assuming responsibility for the safety and administration of the school site.
    • Assist the principal in fostering a school culture of collaboration.
    • Assist the principal in ensuring professional learning communities are conducted weekly in every department/subject.
    • Assist the principal in properly administering new employee orientation of all district expectations.
    RELATIONSHIPS
    • Assist the principal in promoting a positive tone for collaborative school/community relations by articulating the mission, seeking community support, and fostering rapport with all stakeholders.
    • Encourages teachers to maintain effective communications with parents.
    • Ensures that teachers have formal roles in the decision-making process regarding school initiatives.
    • Ensures that students, parents, and community have formal ways to provide input regarding the optimal functioning of the school.
    STUDENT CONDUCT
    • Assist the principal in Involving staff in developing and maintaining a student code of conduct.
    • Assist the principal in providing an environment where students assume responsibility for their own behavior and the attitude/behavior of their peers regarding school property and respecting the rights, properties, and opinions of others.
    • Assist the principal in the development of the student handbook.
    • Assist the principal in ensuring that all extracurricular events/activities are properly supervised by a member of the site administrative team.
    • Assist the principal in ensuring that the site follows all procedures related to the hearings/appeal process in all student matters resulting in suspension.
    SCHOOL CLIMATE
    • Assist the principal in fostering a positive school climate by assessing, planning, and communicating with the school community, promoting distributive leadership while demonstrating understanding of and respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.
    Performs other duties as assigned.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-, eleven- or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.
