    Summary


    The Engineering Manager - Modernizations and Upgrades will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee activities in the Mechanical Engineering department, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient and cost-effective operations to meet current and future needs of the company.

    What You'll Do


    • Personnel Strategy – attracting, developing & retaining talent – 30%
    • Develop talent strategies to determine workforce needs
    • Conduct weekly team meetings
    • Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with direct reports
    • Comfortable leading team meetings with all levels
    • Regional Product Strategy – Best determine what products we need to develop for modernizations and upgrades for projects. 40%
    • Lead and coordinate frequent, ongoing meetings with all relevant CoCs and CoEs to understand global product vision.
    • Participate in "hot project list meeting" representing the Engineering department to provide input, and to adjust capacity, resources.
    • Understand customer demands and market demands
    • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and development related to the organization's industry to learn best practices and incorporate into local strategies.
    • Influence key stakeholders
    • Pitch innovative ideas to key stakeholders
    • Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the company's engineering and development initiatives.
    • Develop independent Modernization & Upgrade opportunities / strategies for all product lines at SUS including flat rolling, processing lines, continuous casting, steel making, forging & long products.
    • Coordinate all service workshop & spare parts engineering needs & related engineering support.
    • Consolidate all satellite engineering group activities.
    • Functional Strategy – aligning resources to support product strategy – 30%
    • Functional strategy overlaps with product strategy
    • Support the "Project first" directive by establishing and maintaining a functional project execution set-up for the local engineering teams
    • Manage budgets based on hours
    • Establish and maintain monthly local resource utilization planning
    • Interact with supply chain to provide inputs
    • Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
    • Ensures that departmental decisions such as staffing, development, organization, hardware acquisitions, and facilities are in line with the organization's business plan and vision.
    • Conducts or acquires cost analysis for development projects; oversees preparation and maintenance of project engineering schedules and milestones.
    • Ensures that projects are completed within budget, in quality and in an economical manner.
    • Collaborates with the company's executive leadership to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Supervisory Responsibilities


    • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management staff in the department.
    • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
    • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
    • Oversees discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
    What You'll Need


    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; MBA and/or MSC Engineering preferred.
    • Financial, technical, management, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
    • 10 plus years' experience
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent time management skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
