    Your Specific Responsibilities:
    This position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees' work.

    The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action.

    The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

    This is a supervisory position performing a full range of intermediate level duties.

    The position requires utilization of epidemiologic analytic techniques and involves collection of information regarding individual case reports as well as participation in outbreak investigations.

    This position investigates the distribution and determinants of disease prevalence in populations to determine and describe means for detection, prevention, intervention and control of health problems.

    This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, Planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.

    Serves as lead epidemiologist.

    Ensures that quality control measures including data completeness, timeliness, control measures, and reporting requirements are maintained for all county disease reports.

    Provide leadership and coordination of disease investigations. Serve as point of contact for epidemiology related inquiries. Provide guidance to epidemiology staff members on disease investigation protocols.

    Identifies persons at risk for disease infection or transmission; performs case analyses and prepares documents relative to the epidemiological or disease control process.

    Responsible for analyzing/collection of data, preparing reports, and presenting all findings to the Director, Assistant Director, Regional Administrator and central office.

    Collaborates with other county health department staff on highly sensitive cases.

    Coordinates surveillance activities around outbreak prevention and response strategies within health department response plan and in collaboration with other public health programs.

    Works with Community partners in developing, implementing and evaluating communicable disease surveillance effectiveness and identifies any issues needing resolution. Provides Epidemiology Program related training to county health department staff. Participates in population health-related epidemiological studies with university partners under the Director's or Assistant Director's guidance. Responsible for coordinating and assigning epidemiological activities of subordinate staff.

    Serve as the Epidemiology Program Manager and lead epidemiologist.

    Participate in the investigation and follow-up of reportable disease cases (including animal bite reports) in populations to determine and describe means for detection, prevention, intervention and control of health problems within the community.

    Identifies persons at risk for disease infection or transmission; performs case analyses, and prepares documents relative to the epidemiological or disease control process.

    Assist with the collection and analysis of data, preparing reports, and presenting findings to the assistant director, director, and other parties as needed.

    Collaborates with other county health department staff on highly sensitive cases.

    Serve as the lead coordinator for the Epidemiology Program's surveillance of infectious diseases in long-term care facilities, daycare facilities, and school settings.

    Serve as a consultant and resource person regarding infection prevention issues for long-term care facility personnel or school officials, collaborates with other healthcare professionals within and outside of the facility/school, and implements infection prevention education campaigns as necessary.

    Serve as the lead for tracking outbreaks and clusters of disease in long-term care facilities and school settings.

    Oversee the operations of the Sumter CHD Injury Prevention Program. Ensure that Able, Stable, and Well (ASW) Sumter program goals are met. Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the ASW evaluation plan. Ensure adequate recruitment of ASW participants. Coordinate injury prevention community outreach, education and, health promotion activities. Engage and inform community partners on injury prevention related topics. Collect, analyze, distribute analyses of injury and injury prevention related data to community partners and members. Ensure that Sumter CHD maintains a liaison with the Age Friendly Public Health Initiative. Ensure compliance with FDOH Institutional Review Board requirements.

    Provides leadership, direction, and support in developing objectives, performance standards and corrective action plans.

    Directs and/or participates in the evaluation of service delivery and compliance with direct service standards by means of performance review data compilation; analysis and reporting; monitoring and development of corrective action plans when necessary.

    Participates in strategic planning, accreditation, and other quality improvement processes. Develops and implements County Health Department Strategic Planning process. Sets short and long-term strategic priorities. Develops goals, strategies, and objectives relative to strategic priorities. Monitors and updates Strategic Plan and SP process on an ongoing basis.

    Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Swim Safe Sumter Data Analysis and Program Evaluation Project. Design and revise assessment tools. Create and maintain data storage systems. Ensure data quality. Collect, analyze, distribute results of Swim Safe data analyses to program administration and relevant partners. Provide data driven recommendation to improve the operations of the evaluation project and the Swim Safe Sumter Program overall. Ensure compliance with FDOH Institutional Review Board requirements. Provides the training for data collection for the program evaluation staff.

    Oversee the Epidemiology Program's emerging pathogens contact tracing unit. Monitor data collected by the emerging pathogens contact tracing unit to ensure timely and complete data entry. Coordinate the delivery of educational seminars and materials to support the emerging pathogens contact tracing unit.

    Represents the Epidemiology Program at Sumter County ESF-8 Health and Medical Coalition meetings and ensure that county stakeholders are well informed about pertinent epidemiologic information that could potentially impact Sumter County populations, by use of regular communication updates.

    Serves as coordinator of monthly Sumter County ESF-8 Infectious Disease Subcommittee Meetings. Participates in strategic planning accreditation, and other quality improvement processes. Oversees the quarterly production of Epidemiology Program Newsletter.

    Provides program related training to county health department staff.

    Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


    • Working knowledge of the use of Electronic Health Records. Knowledge of Public Health.
    • Ability to conduct and coordinate all aspects of epidemiologic investigations.
    • Knowledge of the procedures involved in disease outbreak investigation and control
    • Ability to conduct electronic disease reporting.
    • Ability to coordinate with local healthcare partners to ensure disease reporting is occurring in a timely manner, in a concordance with State statute and administrative codes.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Natural Science or Public Health related field / AND / at least two years of relevant experience conducting disease/outbreak investigations in a public health setting.
