    Schedule: Casual Position - Days, Evenings, Weekends and Holidays available

    We are searching for a Physician Assistant to provide patient centered, specialized, evidence based care across the continuum through an interprofessional approach to treatment, research, education and advocacy. APP's are board-certified providers that assume responsibility and accountability for health stabilization, promotion, and maintenance of acute and chronic illness or injury. This role contributes to the mission and vision of the organization by being accountable for the delivery of compassionate and safe care within the scope of practice as defined by the Nebraska state statutes, administrative code and CHMC bylaws. The APP is committed to a culture of clinical excellence, respect, innovation, and academic inquiry through collaborative practice with all members of the care delivery team.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Responsible for acute care, evaluation and management of patients to include ordering appropriate lab, x-ray, physical therapy, counseling, medications and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary. Provide follow-up care and/or referrals
    • Evaluate, diagnosis and treat chronic disease problems
    • Manage chronic disease problems when the patient's primary provider is unavailable for immediate consultation
    • Perform health maintenance exams, school and sport physicals. Order appropriate lab and diagnostic procedures as appropriate
    • Obtain accurate histories from patient
    • Obtain specimens and perform appropriate lab tests or microscopic studies including but not limited to strep screens, urine pregnancy tests, wet preps, urinalysis and others
    • Evaluate patient's ability to return to work or advise medical restrictions
    • Assist in patient and education and health promotion issues
    • Follow-up telephone calls and written communications from patients, other providers, and families of patients
    • Maintain complete medical records, other paperwork within required time period
    • Document patients encounters in a timely manner
    • Attend appropriate committee meetings and educational functions in the clinic and medical center
    • Comply with safety policies, procedures, regulatory requirements such as OSHA, The joint commission and participate in corporate and department safety
    • Based on clinic and or department needs, may require flexibility for taking call
    • Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice to improve patient care including recommending ways to improve clinical practice, participating in related educational activities, utilizing and/or participating in research, participating in professional organizations and performance improvement teams, and incorporating new clinical information into practice
    • Serves as a role model for staff by facilitating, supporting, mentoring, taking initiative, and practicing proactive problem solving
    • Serves as a reliable and visible resource for staff
    • Conducts or utilizes research and new clinical information to recommend ways to improve clinical practice
    • Participates in educational activities and fosters professional relations related to practice
    • Seeks experiences and learning opportunities related to practice
    • Participates in professional organizations
    • Serves on Performance Improvement teams as requested by Medical Director and/or Service Line Manager
    • Assures that clinical practice meets national standards of pediatric healthcare
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of The Joint Commission, HIPPA & all other applicable federal/state/local laws and regulations
    • Strong communication and customer service skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, and clinical judgment abilities
    • Intermediate knowledge of word processing, computer navigation skills
    • Ability to interpret, and use analytic data in day-to-day operations
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a AMA approved Physician Assistant program required
    • Previous experience working in a Physician's office preferred
    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
    • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
    • Current and valid Physician Assistant license in the state of Nebraska required
    • Current and valid National Commission of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification required
    • Current and valid Federal DEA license in the state of IA required. Must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
