    JOB SUMMARY
    This position is responsible for the improved compliance and at times enforcement of city codes and ordinances.


    MAJOR DUTIES
    Patrols the city and responds to citizen complaints in order to identify code violations.
    Communicates with the public to provide information related to code compliance.
    Assists citizens with resolving code compliance issues and/or violations.
    Issues warnings, notices of violation and/or citations as required.
    Takes photographs and gathers evidence related to code violations; prepares case files.
    Performs re-inspections to ensure proper measures have been taken to achieve compliance.
    Maintains files, records, and logs.
    Responds to emails and phone calls from the general public.
    Testifies in court as necessary.
    Inspects residential erosion & sedimentation control measures
    Performs all other duties as assigned.


    KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
    Knowledge of city codes.
    Knowledge of code inspection and evidence collection principles.
    Knowledge of code enforcement principles and practices.
    Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
    Skill in the operation of photographic equipment.
    Skill in conducting and documenting code enforcement inspections.
    Skill in oral and written communication.


    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
    The Community Development Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.


    GUIDELINES
    Guidelines include city codes, International Property Management Codes, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

    COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

    The work consists of related code compliance duties. The unique nature of each case contributes to the complexity of the position.
    The purpose of this position is to encourage compliance and at times enforce city codes. Success in this position results in improved, city-wide compliance with city codes.


    CONTACTS
    Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, and members of the general public.
    Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, to justify matters, or to resolve problems.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, driving, standing, stooping, or walking.
    The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.


    SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
    None.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    High school diploma or equivalent required; and
    More than one year of related experience required; or
    Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
    Possession of or ability to readily obtain certification as a code compliance/code enforcement officer.
    Possession of or ability to readily obtain certification as a red card holder for erosion & sedimentation controls inspection.
    Possession of a valid state driver's license issued for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
