    What started as a 1:1 video platform connecting a Native English tutor and an English learner, has grown to offering Groups (3 students, 1 tutor) as well as using AI to help students and tutors.

    While our product offerings continue to grow, our mission remains the same.
    To continue our growth trajectory, we're currently looking for a seasoned Director of Engineering who will:
    Lead the company through difficult and complex decisions regarding technical strategy and tradeoffs, optimizing for Cambly's near- and long-term success
    Inspire, empower and lead engineers through a shared, compelling, clear, and customer-centric technical vision -Lead engineering execution by developing engineering managers, leveraging our most senior engineers, and not being afraid to get into the weeds with any engineer on the team
    Dive in to the details of the most complex and high stakes problems to ensure teams are set up for success; this could mean wrapping your head around the hairy edge cases of a complex system, reviewing technical designs, or writing code
    Develop roadmaps that balance ambitious and rapid improvements to our product with infrastructure investment to help us scale and ship quickly
    Partner with cross functional leaders across the organization to ensure we leverage our technical expertise to find the shortest path to maximum impact on our learners, tutors, and business
    Take broad ownership over who and how we hire while holding the bar high on skills and culture
    Embody and develop our culture both within engineering and beyond
    If this sounds like you, these are our requirements
    5+ years of experience successfully leading, managing, and coaching multiple engineering teams with over 15+ engineers (3+ years for a consumer tech product with a mobile app and web experience)
    15+ years of software engineering experience
    Strong interest in developing technical and people leaders, supporting career development
    Hands-on approach to engineering management; you understand the systems your org works on and know your way around the codebase
    Experience working at a fast growing, high-scale startup
    Ability to commute into San Francisco 3x's a week

    This role is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the expected base salary range for this position is as shown below.

    The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, business needs and market demand.

    Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
    Compensation Package

    $225,000-$275,000 + Pre-IPO Stock Options
