    Job Description:
    The Louisiana State University School of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Bands, with appointment to begin in August 2024. This is a full-time, 12-month, Instructor position.

    Job Responsibilities:

    Serve as assistant director of Tiger Marching Band, lead Bengal Brass (basketball), conduct symphonic band, teach undergraduate conducting
    Build and maintain a regional and national profile as conductor, teacher, and/or other area of expertise; contribute broadly to the artistic and educational milieu of a major School of Music at a Research I, flagship university
    Oversee recruiting and engagement; participate in other service
    Additional Information:

    This position requires a flexible schedule, some travel, and physical ability to lead practices/rehearsals/events while standing/walking for long periods of time
    Minimum Qualifications:

    A Doctorate in conducting or equivalent professional experience
    A distinguished record as an active conductor; demonstrated excellence in teaching a broad range of students with diverse skill sets; and commitment to contributing broadly to the culture of a major School of Music.

    An additional area of expertise that extends one's influence; evidence of dispositions that serve relationship-building, problem-solving, and opportunity-generating capacities

    The LSU School of Music offers a comprehensive program to nearly 500 music majors. It has 50 full-time faculty, 10 professional staff, and 75 graduate teaching assistants. In addition to the Golden Band from Tigerland and the Turner-Fischer Center for Opera, the School of Music features strong band, orchestra, jazz, vocal, keyboard, and chamber music programs, as well as a robust research component in music education, composition, musicology, and music theory. The School sponsors over 300 recitals, concerts, operas, masterclasses, and lectures each academic year. Degrees offered include the Ph.D. (with concentrations in composition, experimental music and digital media, music education, musicology, and music theory), DMA (concentrations in music performance, collaborative piano, and choral, orchestral, and wind conducting,), MM, BM, BME, and BA (Liberal Arts). LSU also has an innovative and collaborative media arts community; The Center for Computation & Technology (CCT) includes Experimental Music & Digital Media, Digital Media Arts & Engineering, and Digital Arts, offering opportunities to compose for video games, digital animations, and film.
