    Duties

    As an Engineering Technician Polish Provide Infrastructure (PPI) and Polish Provided Logistics Support (PPLS) you will:


    • Plan, complete complex project assignments of unlimited scope in the area of mechanical/electrical engineering design for rehabilitation, major repair, alteration, specification and construction of projects in all engineering disciplines.
    • Review construction project proposals to determine cost estimates and labor hours.
    • Develop mechanical and technical engineering projects for rehabilitation, major repairs, alterations, and specifications.
    • Serve as the senior quality assurance inspector.
    • Modify project plans for economical and functional purposes.
    • Communicate with construction site managers and developers to mitigate any construction problem areas.
    • Prepare detailed designs and specifications for bidding action.
    • Travel to construction and project worksites to review work progress

    • This position requires a valid, state-issued drivers license, pass the USAREUR-AF Drivers Test, have the ability to operate a motor vehicle, and must be insurable in order to travel to other locations in the USAG Poland area of responsibility.
    • This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance of access for the duration of employment which includes a background investigation and credit check.
    • This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 25% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
    • This position may require the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer

    Specialized Experience:
    One year of specialized experience which includes coordinating multi-contractor construction projects; inspecting construction worksites to ensure compliance and work progression; AND, determining project costs to stay within the allocated budget
    This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-9)
    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify
    For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted

    Grade Requirement:
    Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09)

    • Direct deposit of pay is required.
    • U.S
    citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.


    • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
    • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations
    Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.


    • Selectees may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc

    Important Considerations Related to Assignments in Poland


    • Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations.
    • The initial length of this overseas unaccompanied tour is 24 months.
    • Relocation/Recruitment incentive or service credit for non-Federal work experience (advanced leave accrual) may be authorized.
    • Separate Maintenance Allowance (SMA) may be authorized.
    • The USAG Poland is the newest garrison within the Department of Army

    Because of this, some services typically found on an Army facility may not currently be available, including government housing, medical, AAFES, and Commissary facilities.


    • When receiving medical or dental care in the overseas area, employees generally must pay for service up front and submit claims to their insurance companies for reimbursements.
    • Access to medical and dental care in Poland is primarily through the use of local Polish medical and dental facilities on a fee basis with the possibility of reimbursement based on an individual's health insurance plan
    Accessing medical care on the military installation is extremely limited.


    • At an exchange rate of approximately 4:1, Polish Zloty (PLN) to US Dollar (USD), the cost of living in Poland is very reasonable.
