Landscape Designer
to bring creative, visual power to our regenerative water and landscape projects in the beautiful North Coast region

Support our mission of "connecting communities with their watersheds through integrated strategies for a healthy, resilient future" by crafting compelling graphics, plans, and outreach materials that inspire climate resilience. Based in Mendocino or Sonoma, you'll contribute to designs featuring California native plants, low-water plantings, stormwater BMPs, bioswales, rain gardens, greywater reuse, and rainwater harvesting—helping build thriving, ecologically sustainable communities in redwood country and wine country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create CAD drafting, grading plans, planting plans, sections, perspectives, and renderings for sustainable landscape projects.
  • Design graphics, infographics, educational signage, fliers, reports, and multimedia for public engagement on ecology, water conservation, and regenerative design.
  • Support social media, website updates, and outreach strategies to translate technical concepts into accessible visuals.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team (architects, engineers, planners, creative staff) on project visuals and documentation.
  • Contribute to holistic designs that integrate nature-based solutions for watershed health.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Horticulture, Visual Communication, or related field.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD (Land-FX experience preferred).
  • Strong skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign for compelling visuals.
  • Knowledge of California native plants, plant ecology, planting design, and stormwater BMP/landscape grading.
  • Excellent professional communication (oral/written) and ability to convey ecological concepts persuasively.
  • Self-motivated, with proven ability to produce effective graphics and work remotely or in teams.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Low Impact Design (LID), nature-based/holistic approaches, greywater/rainwater systems.
  • SketchUp, Rhino, or 3D rendering; ArcGIS; animation software.
  • Social media strategy, website management, public outreach, or project coordination.
  • Familiarity with North Coast regional conditions (coastal, redwood, vineyard ecosystems).

Why Join Us in Mendocino/Sonoma?

  • Work in one of California's most biodiverse and scenic regions—redwoods, coastlines, and resilient communities.
  • Competitive pay + strong benefits: Health care stipend, annual training/wellness funds, 401k match, PTO/vacation/sick time, paid holidays.
  • Growth in regenerative design: Learn our multi-benefit tools (climate-appropriate landscaping, water capture) and make a real impact on local watersheds.

We especially encourage applications from Mendocino, Sonoma, and North Coast residents who share our commitment to equity, ecological regeneration, and community-centered work. Women, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and underrepresented groups in environmental fields are strongly encouraged to apply—even if you don't meet every qualification, share why this role excites you

In This Position, You Will

  • Lead collaborative creation of landscape visuals and documents.
  • Teach design software/best practices to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Learn Watershed Progressive's regenerative approach (greywater, rainwater, native landscapes).
  • Grow your expertise in holistic resilient design for a shared vision of thriving ecosystems.

Additional Application Instructions
