    Introduction

    The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with Chesapeake and Coastal Service Unit.\r

    Tawes, Anne Arundel Co. & Fieldwork throughout Maryland\r

    Main Purpose of Job

    This position will assist the grant manager with outreach to Clean Vessel Act Grant recipients (marinas). The intern's primary responsibility will be visiting marinas across the state of Maryland to inspect grant-funded boat pumpout systems and verify compliance with grant terms and conditions. The intern will also be expected to promote the availability of pumpout grants and communicate the terms of the grant program. The internship is structured for three days per week, with each day comprising 8 hours of work, spanning a total duration of 10 weeks during the summer months.\r

    POSITION DUTIES

    Conduct site inspections of pumpout systems at marinas across the state of Maryland\r
    Serve as an ambassador to the pumpout grant program - answering any questions the marina may have about our grant program while conducting the visits\r
    Enter data collected into Access database and Google Sheets\r

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Applicant must be a current college student, undergraduate or graduate level. A GPA of 2.5 or above is required for academic credit. Applicants must hold a valid driver's license. Strong verbal communication skills required. Candidate must be comfortable on docks and piers at marinas to perform duties.\r

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Boating experience is a plus. Experience and/or skills in environmental studies, communications, marine affairs, and biology, chemistry or related fields.\r

    BENEFITS

    Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r
    Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r
