You will work both independently and as part of a team.Join us As a manufacturing engineer, you will research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services.
You'll consult with program management, design engineers, quality, and production teams in order to develop the most efficient and cost effective means of producing our products at the highest level of quality possible.
You will be involved in the application of manufacturing technologies and industry best practices during the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.
As a manufacturing engineer in the Solar Power group you will be part of a team responsible for build and integration of solar array systems that power spacecraft for customers in all sectors of the space economy.
Sierra Space has developed and patented novel pick-and-place surface mount solar cell technology which will revolutionize the way space rated solar power systems are built.
You will be a part of the team that will scale up that process to enable world class high volume production and test capability of both small and large solar power systems, including multi-panel deployable arrays.
This role will work heavily alongside both the design and test teams and is responsible for reviewing engineering designs for producibility, developing tooling and fixtures, establishing the overall build plans, authoring procedures and work instructions, supporting execution on the production floor, and delivering finished flight hardware to the customer for both conventional and surface mount technology solar power systems.

Bachelor's of Science degree in related discipline and typically 6 or more years of relevant experienceExperience with Computer Aided Engineering toolsPractical knowledge of engineering principles and practicesCapability working in multi-disciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5Background in the Aerospace and Defense IndustryKnowledge of industry standard design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processesExperience with work instruction/traveler developmentParticipation in dispositions of Non-Conformance generation through a Material Review Board (MRB)
Experience with new product introduction and transition to productionExposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systemsPhysical/Mental/Emotional Requirements:
Frequently walk, sit, stand, climb stairs and stepsFrequently repeat same hand, arm, and finger motion many times to include finger and hand dexterityRarely lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs
Working Conditions:
Rarely exposed to outdoor elements (high/low temperatures, sun, rain/snow, etc.)Rarely exposed to fumes or hazardous chemicals/materialsRarely exposed to loud noises

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
