    Job Summary:
    The EMT Instructor is responsible for designing, delivering, and improving the EMT Courses for first-year Medical Students. The EMT Instructor will have an understanding of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) curriculum.


    The responsibilities of the position include assisting in the simulation lab to enhance practical learning experiences, debriefing students on ambulance ride-a longs to provide real-world insights, coordinating ambulance shifts to ensure comprehensive field training, and hosting and delivering American Heart Association (AHA) courses.

    This multifaceted role not only contributes significantly to the educational journey of medical students but also plays a vital role in the broader mission of the School of Medicine to provide exemplary medical education and training.


    Major Responsibilities / Duties / Critical Tasks:

    • Develops and delivers EMT training courses aligned with the NREMT standards.
    • Utilizes diverse teaching methods to cater to learning styles to engage students effectively.
    • Provides constructive feedback and guidance to help students master essential competencies.
    • Assists with the simulation lab to enhance learning experiences for the students.
    • Debriefs students after ambulance ride along to provide feedback and learning insights.
    • Coordinates ambulance shifts to ensure comprehensive training.
    • Teaches American Heart Association courses.
    • Coordinates activities with other personnel to ensure student success.
    • Demonstrates and guides students in practicing fundamental and advanced EMT skills.
    • Ensures proper use and safety procedures for medical equipment and medications.
    • Maintains realistic simulation scenarios to replicate real-world emergencies.
    • Integrates legal and ethical considerations into medical decision-making training.

    Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

    • Proven experience in adult education and instructional methods.
    • Strong understanding of the National EMS Education Standards.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
    • Commitment to student success and providing high-quality education.

    Required Education / Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in education, emergency medical services, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • Experience with simulation and scenario-based learning.
    • Three (3) years of experience as EMT.

    Required Certification / Licenses:

    • Texas certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic is required.
    • Current AHA BLS Provider certification.
    • Current AHA ACLS Provider certification.
